The international scientific conference “Research and teaching Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language in a cross-cultural context” jointly organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM on the morning of December 21, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City attracted the participation of many prestigious domestic and international scientists.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, said that the 7th International Conference on Vietnamese Studies with the content "Research and teaching Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language in a cross-cultural context" in 2024 is an academic forum between units that train Vietnamese studies and teach Vietnamese language to foreigners, both domestically and internationally, in the context of multiculturalism, interculturality, and cross-culture becoming a major issue of international academia, while also raising many burning issues in research and training of Vietnamese studies in Vietnam and around the world.
“The position of Vietnam, the identity of Vietnam, the influence and spread of Vietnamese language and culture globally, that is all we aim for in this International Scientific Conference on Vietnam Studies” - Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh emphasized.
Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU delivered the opening speech at the conference.
The conference is a testament to the vitality of Vietnamese studies, including issues of Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies in general, viewed from the perspective of the movement of the “cross-cultural” space. From that perspective, scholars from many countries such as China, the US, France, Belgium, Korea, etc., have proposed many profound and dialogical academic ideas on the aspects of Vietnamese studies research: language, culture, literature, history, economics, philosophy, art, etc. Those ideas are expressed through the Proceedings of the International Scientific Conference “Research and teaching of Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language in a cross-cultural context” published by the Ho Chi Minh City National University Publishing House before the conference.
Affirming the strong development of Vietnamese studies domestically and internationally
The workshop was divided into 02 discussion sessions with 04 sub-committees, discussing the topics: Vietnamese studies in the world, Vietnamese culture - literature - art, Vietnamese linguistics and Vietnamese language teaching methods, Vietnamese history - society.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam - Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU co-chaired the discussion session at the workshop.
The organizing committee received more than 100 papers, of which 54 were included in the conference proceedings. These papers are divided into two main parts: 1) Vietnamese Studies in the World and 2) Vietnamese Studies – Research Issues. Each part reflects an important aspect in the current research and teaching of Vietnamese Studies.
Many in-depth research issues and practical applications in the research and teaching of Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language were presented and discussed enthusiastically by domestic and international speakers. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thai Ha, Saigon University)...

Highly appreciating the significance of the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thu - Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM emphasized that the submissions have great academic and practical value, not only for researchers but also for educators, managers and those interested in Vietnamese culture and people.
The outstanding feature of the conference’s presentations was the diversity of topics. The presentations not only focused on traditional values ​​such as culture and history, but also emphasized contemporary challenges such as globalization, cultural exchange and the development of digital technology in Vietnamese language teaching. This shows that Vietnamese Studies is constantly innovating and expanding the scope of research to suit the practical needs of the times.
The content of the papers clearly demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach, combining linguistics, cultural studies, sociology, religious studies, anthropology, and information technology. The application of both qualitative and quantitative methods in many papers helps to improve the accuracy, practicality, and application of the research. This is also a testament to the modernization and internationalization trend of Vietnamese studies.
The discussions at the conference also reflected internationalization. Papers were submitted by scholars from many countries and territories such as Korea, Taiwan, France, Italy and the United States, demonstrating the growing interest of the international academic community in Vietnamese studies. This cooperation not only expands the influence of the field but also contributes to building Vietnam's position in the international arena.
