VNU-USSH scientists consulted on leveraging resources and developing Lao Cai province into a regional connectivity hub.

This morning, November 29, 2024, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH), in collaboration with the Propaganda Department of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee and the Lao Cai Provincial Political School, organized the national scientific conference "Promoting the Values ​​and Resources of Social and Humanities to Serve the Development of Lao Cai Province into a Growth Pole and Regional Connectivity Center by 2030, with a Vision to 2050".
 
The workshop attracted the participation of experts, researchers, and managers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Academy of Public Administration, and the National Economics University; as well as representatives from several departments, agencies, and localities of the province.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Vu Xuan Cuong, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of Lao Cai, summarized the characteristics of the situation, outstanding results, goals, and strategies in the socio-economic development of Lao Cai province, especially the potential, strengths, and the province's focus on promoting socio-humanistic values ​​and resources, preserving and promoting cultural identity, and building a comprehensively developed Lao Cai people.
The Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee requested that delegates and scientists participating in the workshop focus on researching, analyzing, discussing, and evaluating the current state of social and humanistic values ​​and resources in Lao Cai. From there, they should propose viewpoints, orientations, mechanisms, policies, and solutions to promote these values ​​and resources, contributing to building Lao Cai into a growth pole and a center for economic connectivity and trade between Vietnam and ASEAN countries with Southwest China.

In his introductory report for the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Vice Chairman of the University Council, Head of the Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, stated that the Lao Cai provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Prime Minister in Decision 316/QD-TTg, has identified the goal of building and developing Lao Cai province into a growth pole and a center for connecting economic trade between Vietnam and ASEAN countries with the Southwest region of China. This aligns with the general development views and policies of the Northern Midlands and Mountains region and the entire country, making a significant contribution to promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense, security, and foreign relations of the region and the country.
The workshop serves as a scientific forum for management agencies and scientists to exchange and further clarify theoretical issues, current situations, and propose viewpoints, orientations, mechanisms, policies, and solutions to promote socio-humanistic values ​​and resources to develop Lao Cai province into a growth pole and regional connectivity center by 2030, with a vision to 2050.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Vice Chairman of the University Council, Head of the Training Department, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi, presented the introductory report at the conference.
With over 30 papers submitted to the conference by scientists and managers, the focus was on analyzing and clarifying theoretical issues regarding socio-humanistic values ​​and resources, and promoting these values ​​and resources to meet the development requirements of Lao Cai province in the new period; identifying, analyzing, and evaluating the current state of socio-humanistic values ​​and resources in Lao Cai province and the current state of promoting these values ​​and resources in Lao Cai province.
Based on this, scientists and managers have proposed a system of viewpoints, policies, orientations, objectives, solutions, mechanisms, and ensuring conditions to promote the socio-humanistic values ​​and resources of Lao Cai province, contributing to building and developing Lao Cai into a growth pole and regional connectivity center by 2030, with a vision to 2050.
At the conference, scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities contributed many valuable scientific and practical papers, such as: Ethnic cultural resources and cultural policies of Vietnam in the context of integration and development (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Giang); Identifying, assessing the current situation and promoting socio-humanistic values ​​and resources in responding to non-traditional security challenges (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu, Dr. Le Trung Kien); Identifying, assessing the current situation and promoting socio-humanistic values ​​and resources in responding to natural disasters and adapting to climate change in Vietnam (Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang); Regional and sub-regional linkages: importance in rapid and sustainable development (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Dung).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Giang, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, presented a paper entitled "Ethnic Cultural Resources and Vietnam's Cultural Policy in the Context of Integration and Development".
In addition, the presentations offered lessons learned from other countries and different approaches to the socio-economic and cultural characteristics of Lao Cai, such as: Japan's experience in leveraging social and human resources and lessons for Lao Cai province (Dr. Nguyen Duy Quynh); Experiences in developing green and ecological cities linked to sustainable development: Suggestions for Lao Cai City, Lao Cai province (Dr. Duong Tat Thanh); Leveraging resources through the implementation of democracy in ethnic minority areas (MSc. Hoang Thanh Lich, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Chieu); Preserving and promoting cultural values ​​linked to sustainable development in Lao Cai - A policy approach towards the Hmong ethnic minority (Dr. Nguyen Tran Tien).
Comrade Duong Duc Huy, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, highly appreciated the scientific and practical value of the workshop.
In his concluding remarks at the workshop, Mr. Duong Duc Huy, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, emphasized that the opinions of experts, researchers, and scholars are an important basis for Lao Cai to focus on solutions to promote the values ​​and resources of social and humanities to serve the province's development into a growth pole and a regional connectivity center by 2030, with a vision to 2050. The workshop was not only a forum for academic exchange but also the starting point for many opportunities for cooperation in training, scientific research, policy consulting, and local development between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and agencies and units in Lao Cai province in the future.
