Attending the workshop, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, there were Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan (Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector), heads of departments; many experts in Vietnamese studies, lecturers from universities and research centers at home and abroad: Vietnam Historical Science Association, Vietnam Geographic Science Association, University of California (USA), University of Cologne (Germany), Thailand, ...; together with all lecturers, students, and graduate students of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. The workshop was held directly at the Hall and online via Zoom software.
In his opening speech at the conference, Principal Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed that up to now, the Vietnamese Studies and Language Department in particular, and the social sciences and humanities in general, have made great strides. The Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, formerly the Faculty of Vietnamese Language, has a history of more than half a century, and has increasingly affirmed itself as a leading interdisciplinary research and training unit in Vietnamese Studies in Vietnam. In the past two years, despite the difficulties of the pandemic and the transformation of higher education in general, the Faculty of Vietnamese Language and Literature has carried out very important tasks assigned by the state: completing the 6-level competency framework for Vietnamese for foreigners, online teaching database, and organizing teaching for a large number of Vietnamese people abroad. Today's conference has great practical significance, being an opportunity to summarize and evaluate new achievements in the field of training and teaching Vietnamese studies in universities, while also focusing on core issues and trends in interdisciplinary research and training of Vietnamese studies in universities in the current context of globalization.

In the report introducing the Workshop, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam (Head of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language) shared: with a history of formation and development of more than 50 years, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language has now had cooperative relations with 30 countries and territories in training, scientific research, and teaching Vietnamese to foreigners. In the context of Vietnamese Studies being a major taught in many educational institutions, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language, University of Social Sciences and Humanities is affirming its own path and worthy position. The Workshop is a scientific activity continuing the series of academic concepts and scientific values of many in-depth seminars and workshops on Vietnam, while also building the foundation to create a network connecting Vietnamese scholars at home and abroad; towards a modern, borderless development of Vietnamese Studies, in which Vietnam plays a central and proactive role.

In the report introducing the Conference, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam highlighted the achievements in researching Vietnamese studies and teaching Vietnamese and Vietnamese language in universities in Vietnam and around the world, and also pointed out the challenges in the current context.

The conference attracted the attention of many Vietnamese scholars at home and abroad, with more than 40 reports on the main topics: theoretical issues, approaches and research methods of Vietnamese studies; some economic, cultural, social and environmental issues of Vietnam in Vietnamese studies research; teaching Vietnamese studies in universities; teaching Vietnamese to foreigners: reality and prospects. The reports showed a very comprehensive view, affirming the interdisciplinary, multi-dimensional, multi-perspective, modern approach of a science about Vietnam; at the same time, proposing a number of solutions to promote international cooperation in research and training of Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language.
In the Plenary Session and 02 Specialized Subcommittees, 25 reporters presented papers and many comments, debates, and questions were raised very openly, enthusiastically, and with a high academic spirit. The papers and exchanged opinions summarized and evaluated a number of achievements in research and training of Vietnamese Studies in the interdisciplinary direction over the past two decades as well as the development trends, meeting the practical needs of society, while affirming the role, prospects, and proposing solutions to contribute to the development of Vietnamese Studies domestically and internationally.
At the same time, the workshop also raised scientific issues on Vietnamese economics, society, culture, and language that need to be further researched and studied in an interdisciplinary and regional orientation.
