The University of Social Sciences and Humanities successfully co-organized the National Conference: "Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System: Potential, position and regional and inter-regional exchange relationships"

On the morning of November 25, in Hoi An City (Quang Nam Province), the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Hanoi University of Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) in collaboration with the Hoi An Heritage Conservation Management Center (People's Committee of Hoi An City, Quang Nam) organized the National Scientific Conference "Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System: Potential, position and regional and inter-regional exchanges".
Attending the workshop were leaders of Hoi An City, representatives of leaders of two universities, experts from research institutes under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, research agencies, cultural management agencies, scientific agencies,... of Quang Nam province and many provinces in the Central region.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) delivered the opening speech emphasizing the scientific and practical significance of the Conference.
In recent years, research on Hoi An Ancient Town, the South Central Coast trading port system as well as diplomatic activities and economic exchanges between Vietnam and Asian and world countries have achieved many important results. In the past three decades, there have been many articles, research works, theses and dissertations on Hoi An trading port, Nuoc Man and the Central region trading port system.
The Center for Sea and Islands, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, in collaboration with the Hoi An Cultural Heritage Conservation Center, has organized many international and national scientific conferences:
+ Central Vietnam's commercial port system with the "Silk Road on the sea" - Role and relationships (2017).
+ Cu Lao Cham: Diverse natural resources, culture and sustainable development (2019)
+ On November 25 this year, at Hoi An Ancient Town (World Cultural Heritage), the two units coordinated with Hanoi University of Culture to organize a scientific workshop: Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System: Potential, position and regional and inter-regional exchanges.
The National Scientific Conference was organized to aim at new, deeper and more comprehensive perceptions of Hoi An and the commercial ports in the South Central region; research to clarify the potential and strengths of the commercial port system towards an increasingly deeper and more comprehensive view of the role and position of the Central region's commercial port system in regional, inter-regional and inter-Asian relations.
The workshop received the attention of many researchers with 34 papers sent to the Organizing Committee. The live workshop program took place in three sessions including: "Overview and theory of Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System" (General session); "Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System: Economic activities and regional and inter-regional economic exchanges" (Subcommittee 1); Hoi An Commercial Port and the South Central Coast Commercial Port System: cultural issues and cultural exchanges (Subcommittee 2). The papers presented at the workshop focused on clarifying the following basic contents:
The first,Systematically study the formation and development process of Hoi An Ancient Town and the South Central Coast port system through historical periods (foundation basis, development process, economic potential of the ports...) and the fundamental changes of Hoi An and the South Central Coast ports.
Monday,clarifying concepts and theories of marine economy; activities of economic centers on regional and international sea routes; the role of islands, archipelagos, oceans and the South Central Coast region in the development of political centers, economic and cultural spaces in Vietnam; the key position and economic transfer of Hoi An and South Central Coast commercial ports.
Tuesday,Analyze natural potential, natural resources; raw material centers, handicraft production, sources of goods production; exploitation and exchange capacity; roles, activities, and relations of commercial ports in the South Central region with regions and economic spaces in Southeast Asia and Asia; clarify the contributions of residential communities, maritime cultures, domestic and foreign merchant communities to the Central region and the cause of economic revival of Vietnam.
Wednesday,continue to study the cultural and social characteristics of Hoi An - Quang Nam, the South Central Coast region; the interweaving and integration of relationships, diplomacy with social activities, cultural and technical exchanges; at the same time clarify the potential and strengths of the South Central Coast's marine cultural space; the system of marine knowledge, marine cultural traditions; the depth, diversity, and development trends of marine cultural spaces; the approach from the sea and islands in perceiving, analyzing, and evaluating the historical and cultural characteristics of Vietnam's marine environment.
Thursday,Propose and advise the City Party Committee, People's Committee of Hoi An City and Quang Nam Province on research; training of cadres, especially experts in sea and island research; on management and conservation of cultural heritage,... contributing to the successful implementation of the Vietnam Sea Strategy and resolutions and policies on socio-economic development, conservation and promotion of cultural values ​​of Quang Nam Province and Hoi An City.

Delegates attending the Workshop presented papers and discussed very openly and enthusiastically at the Workshop.
The results of the Workshop also contributed to clarifying and preparing scientific arguments for the successful implementation of the XXII Resolution (term 2020-2025) of the Provincial Party Congress of Quang Nam Province, the Resolutions and policies of the City Party Committee, and the People's Committee of Hoi An City are striving to soon complete the adjustment of the City's Master Plan to 2035, with a vision to 2050 in the direction of building Hoi An Ancient Town into an Ecological - Cultural - Tourist City, while developing Cu Lao Cham island commune into a center of marine economy, ecotourism and marine island services.
