Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Social Sciences and Humanities Week: Spreading Knowledge, Promoting Innovation

This is not only an important academic forum but also a space for disseminating knowledge, inspiring scientific research, innovation, civic responsibility, and a desire to contribute among faculty, scientists, and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

On May 18th, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, solemnly inaugurated the 2026 Social Sciences & Humanities Week, launched the 2026 Social Sciences & Humanities Exhibition, and held a program to honor collectives and individuals who have made significant contributions to the university's scientific and technological activities and innovation.

Taking place over a week, the program offers many outstanding activities such as workshops and seminars on various fields: Heritage and Development; Cinema and Popular Arts; Economics and Innovation; Digital Capabilities and Artificial Intelligence; Globalization and Integration; AI in Social Sciences and Humanities… Through these activities, it contributes to spreading the spirit of research, innovation, and academic networking within the scientific community.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opening of the Social Sciences and Humanities Week and the inauguration of the USSH Expo 2026 exhibition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University, stated that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the leading training and research institutions in the country in the field of social sciences and humanities, with a long-standing academic tradition, a proud record of achievements, and significant contributions to the development of the country.

Over the years, the University has built a team of highly qualified, dedicated, and experienced scientific staff, including many professors, associate professors, doctors, leading experts, and dynamic, creative young scientists.

With over 82% of faculty holding doctoral degrees and over 25% being professors and associate professors, numerous strong research groups at the national and university levels have been formed. The university is gradually building a deep academic community with the capacity for international integration and the ability to lead new research directions.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thu Huong, the university is currently implementing hundreds of scientific research projects at various levels, along with many international cooperation programs. Many research works have high academic and practical value, making positive contributions to policy planning, cultural development, education, communication, heritage preservation, and human development in Vietnam.

The number of research projects is constantly increasing in both quantity and quality. Currently, the University is leading 5 national-level projects, 9 Nafosted-funded projects, 18 national-level projects, 48 ​​institutional-level projects, and 5 international projects, with a total budget of nearly 60 billion VND, an increase of approximately 24% compared to the same period last year.

The university's scientific research activities over the past year have continued to achieve many remarkable results, with a positive growth in the number of international publications, projected to increase by 41% in 2025 compared to the previous year. Many key national, ministerial, and national university-level research projects have been effectively implemented, ranking first among training institutions in the same field in Vietnam today.

In addition, numerous national and international scientific workshops and seminars have been organized; many policy advisory reports, national reports, and research products serving the community have been recognized by society.

Highly appreciating the achievements of the University, Dr. Vu Thanh Mai, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, emphasized: “The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has made many efforts to innovate and achieved many remarkable results. The University continues to affirm its role as a leading prestigious training and research center in the country in social sciences and humanities; making many important contributions in basic research, applied research, policy consulting and social critique.”

According to Dr. Vu Thanh Mai, many research projects by scientists at the university have contributed to explaining theoretical and practical issues concerning the country's development; preserving and promoting national cultural values; building the Vietnamese people of the new era; developing journalism, media, social governance, international relations, and digital transformation in the cultural and social fields; as well as researching emerging issues related to cyberspace, digital media, data, and artificial intelligence.

“The university has also actively participated in advising the Party, the State, and local authorities on policy matters; while promoting international cooperation, improving the quality of scientific publications, developing strong research groups, and training high-quality human resources to serve the cause of national construction and defense,” said Dr. Vu Thanh Mai.

"This is not only an important academic forum but also a space for disseminating knowledge, inspiring a spirit of scientific research, innovation, civic responsibility, and a desire to contribute among lecturers, scientists, and students," emphasized Dr. Vu Thanh Mai.

Leaders of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department also particularly welcomed the proactive spirit of bringing social sciences and humanities closer to the public, social life, and the younger generation. “Because the value of science lies not only in research works but also in its ability to inspire, raise public awareness, cultivate character, and contribute to the formation of independent thinking, critical thinking, and a humanistic spirit for society,” shared Dr. Vu Thanh Mai.

At the event, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities honored and expressed gratitude to its partners. Simultaneously, the Rector of the University awarded Certificates of Merit to 5 collectives and 33 individuals for their outstanding achievements in science, technology, and innovation in 2025.

The school expresses its gratitude to individuals who have made significant contributions to the school's science and technology activities and innovation.

Many new features in the 2026 Social Sciences and Humanities Week:

For the first time, the program was organized on a school-wide scale, focusing on connecting academics, technology, innovation, and practical applications. This clearly demonstrates the trend of combining social sciences and humanities with digital technology, digital data, and digital transformation in the current context.

This presentation provides a comprehensive overview of the scientific research achievements of the University and its units over the past year, ranging from international publications, key research projects, collaborative research programs, to academic seminars and workshops, policy advisory reports, and products serving national development.

For the first time, the university is showcasing the research results of 26 student scientific research projects that won first prize at the university level, and are being prepared for selection to participate at the national university level and the Ministry of Education and Training level.

For the first time, the school organized a program to honor and express gratitude to groups and individuals who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to science, technology, and innovation.
