According to scientists, the Nam Dinh Gazetteer was compiled according to the standards of the Vietnam National Gazetteer, with the task of recording, describing, providing complete, specific, objective and authentic information about the geography, environment, people, history, politics, economy, society and culture of the current Nam Dinh land. If considered purely in terms of form, the Nam Dinh Gazetteer in 2024 is not much different from the Nam Dinh Gazetteer that scientists from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities completed in 2003, but in fact, the difference is quite large in many aspects. The Nam Dinh Gazetteer published in 2003 is an independent monograph, divided into "parts", "chapters", "sections", "subsections", "ideas" and presented according to the standards of a monograph. This Nam Dinh Gazetteer must be a genuine Gazetteer work, mainly focusing on describing and researching the current situation, consisting of about 1,000 items, combined in 35 chapters, 5 volumes, 1 volume in the Local Gazetteer series of the National Gazetteer of Vietnam.
