University of Social Sciences and Humanities successfully organized the contest "Learning about Mekong - Lancang Cooperation"

On March 28, 2023, within the framework of the Mekong - Lancang Week, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the Diplomatic Academy and the Academy of Journalism and Communication successfully organized the contest "Learning about Mekong - Lancang Cooperation". The contest was organized to enhance students' understanding of the Mekong - Lancang region; Promote cooperation in the Mekong - Lancang region; Create a playground for university students to exchange knowledge and practice skills.

The event was honored to welcome Mr. Miao Weicheng, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam; Ms. Nguyen Bich Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Lich, Former Dean of the Faculty of International Economics, Diplomatic Academy; Dr. Luu Thuy Hong, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, Academy of Journalism and Communication; and many experts in international relations research from a number of universities in Hanoi. The event also attracted the participation and encouragement of nearly 400 students from three schools.
In his opening speech, on behalf of the organizing unit, Vice Principal Dao Thanh Truong emphasized the significance of this activity: it is a special event, continuing the successes of knowledge competitions, research activities, and seminars from 2016 to present, and also contributing to improving the understanding of students and the younger generation about the Mekong - Lancang region, creating an extremely useful playground for students of the schools to exchange, discuss, and practice integration skills. We believe that students from the three schools will have great experiences from this competition.

Vice President Dao Thanh Truong affirmed: in the coming time, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will be ready to accompany and contribute to the development of the project in particular and the network of young people growing up from this project, focusing on international cooperation for academic and practical purposes.
Distinguished guests from the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and schools with participating teams all highly appreciated the idea of ​​organizing this competition, which not only raises awareness of students and the general community about Mekong-Lancang cooperation, but also serves as a useful playground for students to exchange, practice, and demonstrate their awareness and responsibility for issues that the world and the region are facing.

The jury consists of experts in the fields of international relations and international studies from three schools.

After the welcoming speeches of the distinguished guests, the three teams (each team consisting of 4 members) officially began the exciting, thrilling and tense competitions through three rounds:
Round 1: We are from the Mekong-Lancang region
Round 2: Cooperation for Sustainable Development of the Mekong-Lancang Region
Round 3: Promoting international cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region

In each competition, the teams demonstrated a broad and comprehensive understanding of the natural, socio-economic, religious, cultural and environmental conditions of the six countries participating in the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation.
Before the question"To promote cooperation and development in the Mekong region, which areas of cooperation should regional countries prioritize in the coming time?"The judges representing the schools demonstrated profound, comprehensive knowledge and courage, and their ability to speak confidently and fluently. The explanations that the teams gave were highly appreciated by the judges as well as international relations experts from the universities. This shows the serious research, careful preparation, eagerness to learn, and passion for research of the students.
At the end of the competition, the Organizing Committee awarded the Excellent Prize to the Team from the Diplomatic Academy and two Cooperation Prizes to the Teams from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Academy of Journalism and Communication.
