Sir, in the 2017 University and College of Education Admissions Guidelines, the Ministry of Education and Training allows candidates to adjust their preferences once after knowing their national high school exam scores. So what is the purpose of allowing candidates to adjust their preferences after knowing their exam results?
According to this year's admission regulations, candidates must register their admission wishes (NV) before taking the exam. After receiving the results of the national high school exam, candidates can adjust their NV if needed. This regulation is to help candidates avoid risks when their exam results deviate significantly from expectations or when they find other occupations more suitable than the chosen occupation. According to the instructions for implementing the admission regulations recently issued by the Ministry, NV adjustment can be done once online or by submitting an NV adjustment form at the place where the application is received. Although NV adjustment can be done easily, it is best for candidates to think carefully so that they only need to register NV the first time without having to worry about adjusting NV after the exam.
According to you, what should candidates do to only need to register their wishes the first time without having to adjust their wishes after the exam results are out?
First of all, candidates must clearly understand the admission principles this year. The 2017 admission regulations stipulate that for all majors/schools, admission is conducted equally based on exam results, without distinguishing the priority order between the candidates; and for candidates, priority is given to the highest possible candidate in the list of registered candidates.
For example, candidate X registered for NV4 with a score of 19.5, candidate Y registered for NV1 with a score of 18 for major A. If the standard score for major A is 19 points, candidate X is admitted (even though he registered for NV4) and candidate Y is failed (even though he registered for NV1). If candidate X, in addition to passing NV4 for major A, also passes NV2, NV5 for other majors/schools, then this candidate will only be called for admission to NV2 (the highest NV among the 3 NVs that were admitted).
So the most important thing for candidates is to arrange NV in order of priority, that is, arrange the majors/schools that they like to study from high to low. Once they have registered for a major/school, the exam results are the deciding factor in whether they pass that major/school or not, not the priority order of NV in relation to other candidates. Therefore, if candidates already have a direction about choosing a major/school in order of priority, they only need to register NV once when doing the exam procedures and do not need to adjust anything after the exam results are available.
Adjusting wishes after the exam, in your opinion, will fall into which cases?
Adjusting NV after the exam results can only happen in the following special cases: Firstly, the candidate has a much higher exam result than the expected result, for example, the candidate expected to only get about 20 points, so he/she registered NV for a major/school with a standard score around this score, but after the exam results, this candidate got 26 points, so the candidate needs to adjust NV to majors/schools with a higher standard score that the candidate did not think of before the exam; Secondly, the candidate has a much lower exam result than the expected result, with the same example, but the candidate only got 16 points, for example, it is necessary to adjust NV to schools with lower standard scores; Thirdly, the candidate changes the chosen major, for example, before the exam, the candidate registered for majors in the economic management block, now he/she finds that the technical block is more suitable for his/her strengths, so he/she needs to adjust his/her registration wishes.
What is your advice to candidates applying for university admission this year, sir?
This year's admission regulations ensure maximum benefits for candidates, guiding candidates to choose the major/school they love to study with good results. From now on, you should think about the direction of choosing a major/school so that when you do the exam procedures, you will have a list of the most suitable wishes. As mentioned above, the most important thing is that you arrange the order of the majors/schools you love. You should boldly register for NV1 in the major/school you love the most, then register for other majors/schools in the order of the next NVs. When considering admission, if you do not pass the high NV, you will be considered for admission to lower NVs depending on the exam results you get. You should not worry too much about adjusting your wishes if your exam results are not far from the expected results before the exam.
Thank you sir.
Can be adjusted online or in person According to the admission guidelines, on July 14, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the threshold to ensure input quality (floor score). Each candidate can only adjust the admission registration once within the prescribed time and can only use one of two methods: online or by the admission registration adjustment form. Adjusting online from July 15 to 21, candidates use the personal account and password that have been granted to make adjustments to their admission registration wishes. Adjusting by form from July 17 to July 23: candidates can adjust the number of wishes to increase compared to the number of wishes initially registered in the admission registration form and must pay an additional fee for the increased number of wishes according to regulations. |
