Book coverOverview of Korean economy and politics
The book is considered to have covered many different areas of development in Korea, focusing on three main contents of Korean political economy: economic modernization, political democratization and globalization of Korean diplomacy. These are considered very basic issues of Korean society in general and in the development policy of the Korean government in particular. The book introduces systematically, both fundamentally and specifically, the characteristics, features and historical transitions in key areas of Korea. In the context that although Korean studies in Vietnam have been developing for more than 20 years, there is still a dearth of in-depth research works on Korea, this is a valuable source of documents, meeting the research needs and information search of scientists, students, trainees and those interested in Korean studies in Vietnam.
Mr. Park Kyoung Choel (Representative School of the Korea Foundation in Hanoi) spoke at the ceremony.
At the book introduction ceremony, Mr. Park Kyoung Choel (Representative School of the Korea Foundation in Hanoi) said: The Korea Foundation was established with the aim of promoting mutual understanding between Korean people and countries around the world. The Foundation has many activities to bring the image of Korean culture and society to friends around the world, especially paying attention to supporting learning materials for the development of Korean studies. The Foundation chose Vietnamese as the first foreign language when translating this book and placed its trust in the staff of the Department of Korean Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities - one of the leading units in researching and teaching Korean studies in Vietnam. In the future, the Foundation will continue to stand side by side and support the Faculty and School in similar activities.
Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities
Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh - Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities said that this is an important event, aiming to introduce a valuable scientific work to a large number of Vietnamese readers. Through this work, readers will be able to answer the question, why has Korea had such miraculous development steps and spread its strong influence to many other countries, becoming one of the 10 largest economies in the world, praised with the phrase "Miracle on the Han River"? And what lessons can Vietnam learn from Korea's development?
This book was published to meet the great need for learning about Korea in Vietnam, especially in the context of the strong development of the cooperative relationship between the two countries. As one of the countries that normalized relations with Vietnam the earliest after the war, the leaders and people of the two countries had awareness ahead of their time to soon establish an effective and sustainable cooperative relationship, contributing positively to the development of both countries.
Prof. Dr. Mai Ngoc Chu - President of the Korean Studies Association in Vietnam
Prof. Dr. Mai Ngoc Chu - President of the Association of Korean Studies in Vietnam, assessed that the book is thick and has rich content, and will be a bedside book for many Korean researchers at research and training institutions across the country. Although Korean studies in Vietnam was born relatively late in Southeast Asia, it has one of the fastest development rates in Southeast Asia. Among the subjects, political economy is a very basic subject in Korean studies, but Vietnam is very scarce in textbooks, documents, and experts in this field. The launch of this book is a timely and meaningful activity for Korean studies as well as helping to raise the prestige of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Dr. Luu Tuan Anh - Head of Oriental Studies Department
Dr. Luu Tuan Anh - Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies expressed his gratitude to the Korea Foundation and the Hanoi National University Publishing House for helping the Department translate this book - a general handbook on the political and economic fields of Korea. This is a remarkable new result after the efforts of the Faculty's staff in developing learning materials, promoting the introduction and promotion of Korean Studies in Vietnam.
