This year's award ceremony had 102 projects, all of which had high scientific content and made positive contributions to the practice of construction, socio-economic development, and national security and defense of the country. After many rounds of selection, the councils worked and screened to select 9 projects to be awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize and 7 projects to be awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology.

Among them, the work “History and Culture of Vietnam - A Partial Approach” by Professor Phan Huy Le was honored to be awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize. Professor Phan Huy Le is a famous historian, President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, former Head of the Department of Ancient and Medieval History (Faculty of History), former first Head of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, former Director of the Center for Vietnamese Studies and Cultural Exchange (the predecessor of the Institute of Vietnamese Studies and Development Sciences, VNU). Professor Phan Huy Le was awarded the State Prize for Science and Technology in 2000 for the work “Searching for the Roots” (2 volumes).

The work “History and Culture of Vietnam - A Partial Approach” is considered a breakthrough in theory and method in the study of Vietnamese history and culture, highly appreciated by the international scientific community; is the scientific basis for preparing a dossier to propose UNESCO to recognize Thang Long Imperial Citadel as a World Cultural Heritage; and serves as a foundation for conducting many other meaningful studies.

The Ho Chi Minh Prize and the State Prize for Science and Technology are awarded by the Party and the State to outstanding works and clusters of works of high value in science and technology. The award began in 1996 and has gone through 4 awarding rounds to date.
