Creating a playground and a dynamic environment for students.Speaking at the program, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, shared that when mentioning the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, many people will think of it as a place with a very high academic and classical focus.
Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, delivered a speech at the 2024 Job Fair - Connecting Employers program.
According to Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, in 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will celebrate its 80th anniversary, dating back to October 10, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh signed the Decree establishing the Faculty of Literature - one of the five faculties of the Vietnam National University, the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In 1995, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was officially established, becoming an independent unit within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
“The 80-year tradition has fostered a very high level of academic excellence, becoming the school's trademark. However, simply saying that is not enough. Because over the past few decades, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has maintained its academic excellence, but has never neglected or distanced itself from the element of integration so that students and trainees in all training programs, upon graduation, not only possess in-depth knowledge, but also interdisciplinary knowledge, interdisciplinary methods, and especially a wide range of skills,” said Professor Hoang Anh Tuan.
He affirmed that classical scholarship remains the unchanging hallmark of the university. The fundamental scientific content and research orientation are unchanged, and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will continue to invest in this orientation.
However, society is changing in a very dynamic direction; the job market demands many factors. Therefore, creating more dynamic, engaging, and relevant work environments and opportunities for students is one of the requirements that universities – including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – recognize, must commit to, and implement.

“The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has a slogan: ‘Cherish the past.’ We still think about classic, academic, and in-depth scholarly elements, but we must also ‘embrace the future.’ This is the trend that our students must embrace and prepare for. The responsibility of the university is to create the best environment and space for students to achieve this,” said Professor Hoang Anh Tuan.
According to him, when the University of Social Sciences and Humanities first organized its Job Fair in 2023, more than 1,000 job positions were filled on the spot. Many students who graduated in the summer of 2023 found employment with the university's partners, becoming official staff members. This confirms the highly effective collaboration between the university and its partners.
Adjust training programs to suit practical needs.Professor Hoang Anh Tuan also stated that one of the excellent policies of Hanoi National University is granting autonomy to the training units in adjusting and directing their training programs.
Understanding this perspective, every year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities makes full use of the 20% space allocated in its training program to adjust courses that are no longer relevant in terms of expertise and orientation, and to "decisively" remove them from the curriculum.
"This means that teachers and educators must be more actively involved, and students also have a very strong voice in quality assurance and program evaluations. We listen to everything, from the perspective of students, employers, and partners, in order to make adjustments."
"The program must ensure that it meets the professional quality criteria set by the Ministry of Education and Training, the regulations of Hanoi National University, and the school's aspirations; but at the same time, it must also be practically geared towards the students' future careers," Professor Hoang Anh Tuan affirmed.
The 2024 Job Fair of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities attracted nearly 60 employers, offering almost 1,300 job opportunities in various fields.
He emphasized that the training program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities still has very in-depth, academic orientations to guide students towards research, but also includes fundamental content and builds qualities so that students can start their own businesses if they so desire.
Adjusting the training program is one of the crucial and vital factors that the school pays special attention to and makes significant adjustments to each year.
Entrepreneurship opportunities for social science and humanities students. At the 2024 Job Fair - Connecting Employers at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mr. Pham Thanh Hung (Shark Hung), a member of the board of directors of many large companies and corporations such as Cen Group, HT Square (Hacoocha), Ibiero, Hong Thai, Haval Thanh An, etc., shared his insights on entrepreneurship with students in the Social Sciences and Humanities field.

Mr. Pham Thanh Hung believes that in any profession, as long as society needs it, we can absolutely start a business. "Society" here can refer to individuals, communities, or even the government and the nation.
"So, don't think that our field of study is too academic or theoretical to start a business. Many entrepreneurs around the world started their businesses in the field we studied. For example, in journalism, the 'tycoons' of media and journalism are all extremely successful entrepreneurs," said Mr. Pham Thanh Hung.
This businessman also emphasized that services related to journalism and broadcasting are essential social services, especially for businesses, government agencies, and the community as a whole. He observed that the fewer people studying a field and the more specialized it is, the less competition there is, meaning those pursuing that field have a greater advantage.
"Don't worry about the difficulty of starting a business, because if we start a business in such a specialized field, we clearly have a great opportunity," said Mr. Pham Thanh Hung.
Also at the event, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized a talk show titled "Job Transition - Opportunities and Challenges for Workers and Businesses," with the participation of five speakers who are recruiters from various fields.
The speakers participating in the talk show included: journalist Nguyen Tuan Anh, Head of Student Affairs, Tien Phong newspaper; Ms. Hong Nguyen, CEO of Pinky House Vietnam, expert in training on finance and investment in rental real estate; Mr. Nguyen Van Dat, Director of Network Development and Director of External Relations, YODY fashion company; Ms. Thuong Vu, Director of Sconnect Academy of Media Arts, Founder and Lecturer at Link Power Vietnam Leadership Training Academy; and singer/actor/MC Duy Khoa, Director of AN Media company.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, represented the university in signing the cooperation agreement between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and various businesses.
