Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, chaired the Conference summarizing the work on adjusting undergraduate training programs.
In his concluding report at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Vice Chairman of the University Council and Head of the Training Department - stated that over the past 17 years, the university has adjusted its curriculum six times to innovate training activities, meet the needs of learners and society, and keep pace with the development trends of interdisciplinary training programs worldwide.
According to Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam, the new aspect of the 2023 curriculum adjustment is the reduction in the number of credits to approach the standard threshold set by the Ministry of Education and Training, helping students plan to complete their studies within four years. In addition, to meet the goal of adjusting some courses towards interdisciplinary approaches, faculties/institutes throughout the university need to plan for the shared use of human resources and some courses within the curriculum among different units.
During the curriculum adjustment process, the university was authorized by VNU to issue the curriculum, and the implementation progress was rapid and timely compared to actual needs. Along with the decisive leadership of the university's Board of Directors in adjusting the curriculum, there was also smooth and effective coordination between departments/centers and faculties/institutes. Therefore, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was the first unit within VNU to complete the curriculum adjustment.
Associate Professor Bui Thanh Nam emphasized that "Academic, Modern, and Interdisciplinary" are key words in the development strategy that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is committed to implementing in the coming time. Therefore, adjusting the curriculum is a regular task, and training units need to be in a state of constant readiness.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thanh Nam - Vice Chairman of the University Council, Head of the Training Department, presented the summary report on the curriculum adjustment work.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen - Deputy Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training - highly appreciated the timely adjustment of the curriculum by the university to meet the requirements of students and society. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen - Deputy Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training
Dr. Pham Hoang Giang - Head of the Philosophy Department - shared his experience in developing a Management Philosophy curriculum that ensures both the nature of a basic science discipline and a modern, interdisciplinary approach.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Thu - Deputy Head of the Psychology Department - has developed a curriculum that spans all levels of study from Bachelor's to Master's to Doctoral degrees, as well as second degree programs.
According to Dr. Pham Huy Cuong, Director of the Center for Educational Quality Assurance, adjusting 100% of the curriculum is a significant effort by the university to ensure compliance with the quality assurance requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training and Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Concluding the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong directed the Training Department to take the lead in proactively developing a plan to adjust and build the undergraduate curriculum for the period 2022-2027 according to the adjustment roadmap between the period (2015-2016) and the end of the period (2028-2029).
Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong emphasized that faculties/institutes need to proactively develop new training programs and continue reviewing existing programs to ensure both the in-depth specialization of the field and modernity and interdisciplinary relevance. In the period 2024-2028, the university aims to issue at least four new training programs. Policies are needed to provide guidance and support to students from the time they are potential students until they are enrolled at the university, especially for students with low academic scores or those who are lagging behind, and students pursuing a second degree program.
The unity, collective effort, intellectual focus, and dedication of all units throughout the university in reforming the curriculum will contribute to improving the quality of teaching and learning, delivering reputable training products, and enhancing the university's brand value.
