Supporting innovative student entrepreneurship: Breakthrough solutions are needed.

Friday - March 18, 2022 22:44
On the afternoon of March 18, 2022, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) along with leaders from several departments and units within the University held a working session with Dr. Mac Quoc Anh (Party Secretary, Vice President and General Secretary of the Association; Vice President of the Anti-Counterfeiting Fund; Director of the Institute of Economics and Business Development); Dr. Pham Duc Nghiem (Deputy Director of the Department of Market and Enterprise Development in Science and Industry - Ministry of Science and Technology) and Ms. Tran Thi Trang (Deputy Head of the Innovation Startup Support Department, Hanoi Business Support Center under the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment).

Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong shared: Strengthening close connections between the university and businesses and recruitment agencies is a major policy that the Board of Directors is very concerned about, aiming to best support students in their studies, scientific research, internships, practical experience, and finding suitable jobs after graduation. A key focus is supporting and stimulating the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation from the time students are still in school, even high school students.

Dr. Mac Quoc Anh highly appreciated the policies and activities supporting student entrepreneurship at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities over the years and committed that businesses in Hanoi will always accompany the university in various areas: sponsoring the "Zero-Cost Supermarket" project, inviting CEOs and successful entrepreneurs from businesses belonging to the Association to participate in forums, seminars, and sharing sessions with students about successful startup experiences and skills. In addition, businesses will provide financial support for scientific research and creative ideas of students; and create conditions for transferring the results of those research into practice.

Dr. Pham Duc Nghiem shared: "In the projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, emphasis is placed on developing cooperation with institutes, universities, and training institutions to develop centers supporting innovative startups, not only in the fields of technology, economics, and engineering, but also in the social sciences and humanities. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has strengths in training high-quality human resources, as well as providing excellent experts and scientists in the field of social sciences and humanities. With the function of supporting the formation and development of science and technology enterprises, we are committed to readily supporting and accompanying the innovative startup activities of our students."

Ms. Tran Thi Trang stated that Hanoi City and the Hanoi Business Support Center (under the Department of Planning and Investment) have many projects and activities: building "idea incubators" right in universities to create an environment for students to develop creative ideas; providing funding for workshops, organizing training courses on startups, and study tours abroad for students... Therefore, with its strengths in social sciences, the University should propose cooperation models with agencies, organizations, and businesses to further promote the entrepreneurial and creative spirit among students and support the development of those ideas into reality, bringing value to society.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu (Principal of the Specialized High School) stated: “Not only university students, but even high school students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have many excellent and valuable creative ideas for the community, but they are unable to continue developing those ideas. Therefore, perhaps we still need breakthrough solutions to create comprehensive support in terms of knowledge, skills, and finances so that students in the social sciences and humanities fields at our university dare to start businesses and succeed.”

Concluding the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong once again thanked the state management agencies in science and technology and businesses for their cooperation in training and supporting students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He also emphasized the need to build models of cooperation, support, and knowledge transfer in the field of social sciences and humanities between training institutions and businesses. The university will develop specific cooperation plans between the university and the participants of today's meeting to implement activities supporting student entrepreneurship: building several entrepreneurial spaces within the campus; organizing several competitions on entrepreneurial ideas; providing financial support, etc. Through these activities, the first step is to change the perception among students that only those in technology, engineering, and economics can start up; and secondly, to contribute to connecting the university with businesses and recruitment agencies. Through supporting student startup projects, businesses can also find talented personnel, as well as good ideas that align with their development direction.
