About the speaker
Dr. Sylvie Fanchette is the research director at the Institute for Sustainable Development Research (IRD), France. Her main research areas include the forms and dynamics of urbanization in Asia; strategies for adapting to climate change, environmental migration and the vulnerability of populations in densely populated plains of Asia; urban-rural relations, migration and urban waste collection and recycling in craft industries.
Since 2014, she has been the research program director at the IRD Institute. She is conducting research on waste collection, recycling, and migration in Hanoi, in collaboration with the Hanoi University of Architecture. She is the author of numerous research papers and book chapters, and co-editor of works such as *Hanoi, A Metropolis in the Making: the Breakdown in Urban Integration of Villages* (Petit Altas Urbain, IRD Publishers, Marseille, 2016).
