Towards the 100th anniversary of the birth and development of the Vietnamese revolutionary press, in order to honor the contributions of veteran journalists to the revolutionary press, which have become valuable journalistic heritages with profound theoretical and practical values, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU and the National Political Publishing House Truth have edited and republished the book series "Time and Witnesses" (Memoirs of Journalists) by Professor, People's Teacher Ha Minh Duc (editor-in-chief) and a group of authors for more than 10 years, through many difficulties and hardships. With three volumes of content and more than forty articles, the book series has portrayed the portraits of veteran journalists who have silently contributed to creating the face of the Vietnamese revolutionary press.
Forty-three journalists are introduced in the book series Time and Witnesses, most of whom were journalists active in the period from before the August Revolution in 1945 to the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism. This was a difficult, arduous period, with many sacrifices and losses for the entire nation, but it was also a heroic period, shining with revolutionary heroism.
Volume I introduces the portraits of 13 journalists: Quang Dam, Xich Dieu, To Hoai, Le Kim, Tran Ku, Tran Lam, Tran Cong Man, Vu Tu Nam, Do Phuong, Huu Tho, Xuan Thuy, Le Ba Thuyen, Ha Xuan Truong. Here we encounter a Quang Dam with profound knowledge, dedicating his whole life to journalism, a Xich Dieu with many happy and sad memories in more than 60 years of journalism, or Huu Tho with his concerns and thoughts about the profession that he concluded that he must "live his whole life with life and provide information and evaluation"... All, all are journalists who are passionate about their profession, devoted to people, full of courage, responsibility, and dare to face difficulties and challenges.
Following the author's emotions, with the articles introduced in volume II, readers are interested in exploring the portraits of 16 journalists: Thanh Chau, Tran Bach Dang, Ha Dang, Hong Ha, Thanh Huong, Tran Kien, Luu Van Loi, Nguyen Thanh Le, Hong Linh, Hien Nhan, Huu Ngoc, Phan Quang, Huynh Van Tieng, Hoang Tung, Hoang Phu Ngoc Tuong, Nguyen Minh Vy. Through the portraits of the journalists, readers will have a "heart-to-heart" view, quite diverse, fluent in both theory and practice about journalism - a sensitive field related to everyone, all areas of social life. The lives of the introduced journalists themselves are living novels, according to the concept of this genre. It is a long story about people whose fate - life - love are closely linked to the fate of the country and the nation, with the formation and development of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism.
Volume III of the book series continues to sketch the portraits of 14 journalists Duong Ky Anh, Ham Chau, Tran Duc Chinh, Thai Duy, Bao Dinh Giang, Tran Mai Hanh, Vu Dinh Hoe, Ho Tien Nghi, Dinh Phong, Truong Phuoc, Nguyen Thanh, Nguyen Phu Trong, Vu Tuat Viet, Hong Vinh... creating a certain completeness of the team of revolutionary journalists until the end of the anti-American period and the beginning of the renovation period.
Carefully and seriously compiled, with a simple and rustic writing style, the timeless lessons about the creative spirit, will and courage of writers are still relevant today, attracting the attention of readers. Turning from the first page to the last page of the book, readers will feel the message sent to journalists and future generations that every profession requires passion and heart.
