On August 2, 2012, Prof. Song Ja Rip - Member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Minister of Higher Education, President of Kim Il Sung National University - visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector of the University - and representatives of the leaders of the units had a solemn and friendly reception with the Minister.On behalf of the staff and students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh expressed his joy and honor to welcome Prof. Song Ja Rip, affirming that this will be an important event opening a new step in the development of the cooperative relationship between the two universities in particular and the two countries in general. The Rector also briefly introduced the activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, affirming its position as the leading training institution in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities in Vietnam. In nearly 70 years of development, the University has always been a high-quality training and scientific research institution, a cradle for training talents, excellent leaders and managers for the country. Many famous scientists at home and abroad have studied and taught here. The University also had very early cooperative relations with universities in North Korea and has maintained these good relationships until now. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh emphasized that, based on the bilateral cooperation document just officially signed between Kim Il Sung National University and VNU, the cooperative relationships between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and members of Kim Il Sung National University will have conditions to develop strongly.

Professor Song Ja Rip said he was very happy to visit the University - a famous university with a long tradition in Vietnam and many breakthrough achievements in recent times. Professor Song Ja Rip shared the common concerns of the two States about the role and importance of social sciences and humanities as the fundamental sciences for the development of humans, society as well as other sciences. He also shared the important development orientations of North Korean higher education as well as Kim Il Sung National University, on that basis, proposed to promote exchanges and cooperation between staff and students of the two schools in the coming time.
