On August 21 and 22, the scientific conference “Research and teaching Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language” took place in Dai Lai, Vinh Phuc. This is an annual conference co-organized by two units specializing in training in Vietnamese studies, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU) and the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU-HCM), aiming to cooperate and exchange basic issues in research as well as teaching Vietnamese studies today.Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Hoang Trong Phien (former first Head of the Vietnamese Language Department, since 1968) and Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Duc (former Head of the Vietnamese Language Department of Hanoi University of Science) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Le Thu (former Head of the Oriental Studies Department - University of Social Sciences and Humanities - VNU-HCM) along with nearly 50 staff, lecturers and scientists from the two departments specializing in training in Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language at the two universities. The conference received 51 reports in many different fields related to Vietnamese Studies and the field of teaching Vietnamese. The number of reports demonstrated the interest and capacity of the departments and lecturers of the two Departments of Vietnamese Studies. The conference's Organizing Committee selected 8 reports to present. The above reports were all of interest to the delegates and were discussed enthusiastically. The conference worked seriously and with quality in two sessions. Eight reports presented at the conference included: Some characteristics of Vietnamese tones of the Vietnamese community in Australia (application to language teaching) - Master Dao Muc Dich; Whale worship in Ly Son - Quang Ngai (case of Lan Dong Hai - An Hai commune - Ly Son district) - Master Nguyen Duy Doai; Research on world heritage from an anthropological approach - from a case study of the ancient urban area of Hoi An - Master Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha; Some suggestions for an effective article - Dr. Tran Thi Minh Gioi (Ho Chi Minh City delegation); Designing content and teaching methods of Vietnamese culture for foreigners - Dr. Nguyen Thi Nguyet; Nguyen Duy's poetic language through the trilogy of world affairs: Awakening potential, Looking from afar at the Fatherland and Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth - Lecturer Vu Thanh Tung; Transforming synonyms in Vietnamese sentences using the substitution technique of synonyms - application to teaching Vietnamese for foreigners - Master Vu Lan Huong; Using Powerpoint to teach song and poem lyrics – Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thien Nam.

The reports all delve into interdisciplinary fields of Vietnamese studies such as literature, art, linguistics, cultural studies, language teaching, etc. with the aim of improving the capacity for teaching and researching Vietnamese studies in the current context of integration. Most of the authors seek new approaches for their research, for example, the anthropological approach in the report on Hoi An ancient town, the approach of applying technology to teaching in the report of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thien Nam... Speaking at the Conference, Professor, Dr. Hoang Trong Phien recalled the development steps of Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language, at the same time highly appreciated the quality of the reports participating in the Conference and emphasized the increasing requirements for professionalism in teaching Vietnamese as a foreign language. Professor, Dr. Dinh Van Duc also affirmed: This year's reports are highly applicable and have completely addressed the most specific and necessary issues in teaching Vietnamese studies. It can be said that this is also a success in opening up new approaches in researching and teaching Vietnamese studies.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Vice Principal of the school), although busy with work in Hanoi, still came to encourage the delegates attending the Conference. On the sidelines of the Conference, amidst the poetic natural scenery and fresh air of Dai Lai Lake, the staff and lecturers of the two faculties also had the opportunity to meet, exchange and share experiences in researching and teaching Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language with the unique characteristics of each region. The two-day Conference left a very deep impression, valuable experiences and lessons for the participants of the Conference; at the same time, contributing to improving the ability and skills of teaching Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language for the next stages.
