On July 27, 2012, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector - received Mr. Takeshi Hama - General Representative of AEON Group (Japan).Mr. Takeshi Hama briefly introduced AEON Group – a leading Japanese retail corporation – which has been present in Vietnam since 2009. Alongside its investment and business activities, AEON also focuses on supporting Vietnamese students by awarding numerous scholarships to students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City and the University of Education in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Takeshi Hama expressed his admiration for the University's outstanding achievements in education and training, as well as its leading scientific staff with many renowned names. Mr. Takeshi Hama stated: “We aspire to support the University's students – those who are academically gifted but come from disadvantaged backgrounds – so that they can focus on their studies in a high-quality university environment like the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi.” In response, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim expressed his gratitude for AEON Group's kind intentions towards the university's students, stating that this would be great news for academically gifted students who lack sufficient financial resources for their studies. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim also noted that this reflects a beautiful aspect of Japanese business philosophy: business should not only achieve economic goals but also ensure social welfare and promote social development. He also expressed his belief that with such a humane business philosophy, the group would soon establish a strong position in Vietnam. During the meeting, both sides discussed specific issues related to AEON Group's (Japan) scholarship program for students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the 2012-2013 academic year. Both sides agreed to sign an official agreement between the two institutions, which is expected to award scholarships to 30 students each year, including 15 students majoring in Japanese Studies. The scholarship recipients will be third and fourth-year students who have overcome difficulties to achieve excellent academic results. The first AEON scholarship signing and awarding ceremony will take place at the beginning of the new academic year.
