On August 6, 2012, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector - attended the ceremony to announce the establishment and launch of the Vietnam Studies Center at National Kaohsiung University (Taiwan, China). This is one of the typical results in the cooperation program between Kaohsiung University and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in recent times. The main functions of the Center are: teaching Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture to Taiwanese people; organizing training courses on Vietnamese language teaching methods for Vietnamese language teachers in Taiwan from elementary school level and above; promoting Vietnamese culture to Taiwanese people, especially the Vietnamese community born and raised in Taiwan; compiling textbooks and documents related to Vietnamese studies; testing and granting certificates of Vietnamese language proficiency at all levels for Taiwanese people. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is an important partner supporting the establishment and development of the Vietnam Studies Center. The University has and will continue to provide documents on Vietnamese studies, send lecturers to teach at Kaohsiung University and the Center, coordinate and take professional responsibility to assess and evaluate Vietnamese language proficiency for students... In the future, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will coordinate with the Center to organize scientific seminars and research projects on Vietnam. Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Center for Vietnamese Studies, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim highly appreciated the significance of this event, saying that the opening of a Vietnamese language major for undergraduate training at National Kaohsiung University - the only specialized Vietnamese language training facility in Taiwan - until the establishment of Taiwan's first Center for Vietnamese Studies here is a correct determination and strategy of the University's Board of Directors, meeting the demands of Taiwan's social reality. The Center for Vietnamese Studies - co-founded based on the strengths and development strategies of the two schools, with the support of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi - will be a pioneer in training and researching Vietnamese studies; a high-quality training facility, providing human resources with knowledge of Vietnamese language and culture for businesses on both sides, and a cultural and language education facility for generations of overseas Vietnamese children in Taiwanese families.
