On the morning of April 18, 2009, a cultural exchange program commemorating Vietnam's Disabled Persons Day (April 18) was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The program, titled "Circle of Friends," was organized by the Hoa Da Club (Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) in collaboration with the Hanoi Disabled Student Club.
On the morning of April 18, 2009, a cultural exchange program commemorating Vietnam's Disabled Persons Day (April 18) was held at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The program, titled "Circle of Friends," was organized by the Hoa Da Club (Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) in collaboration with the Hanoi Disabled Student Club.
Attending the exchange were Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc (Vice President of the Vietnam Student Association), Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan (Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Establishment of the Association of Young People with Disabilities - Vietnam Youth Union), Ms. Nguyen Mai Lan (Vice President of the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), the Executive Board and members of the two Hanoi Student Clubs for People with Disabilities, the Hoa Da Club, representatives of the Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and many other organizations of people with disabilities, along with a large number of student volunteers.
The exchange event was organized to commemorate Vietnam's Disabled Persons Day and to promote the establishment of the Vietnam Association of Disabled Youth. Many inspiring stories of disabled youth and students overcoming difficulties and achieving success were also introduced at this event.
Speaking at the exchange event, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc emphasized the necessity of establishing a system of organizations for people with disabilities to connect them, empower them, and facilitate support from the government and the community. He stressed that young people with disabilities, especially students with disabilities, play a core role in these organizations because they are also a high-quality human resource. Despite their health limitations, with support and favorable conditions, they can unleash immense potential, not only developing themselves but also helping others in similar circumstances and contributing their talents to society. He also highlighted the need for a systematic approach, researched both theoretically and practically to enhance its scientific, practical, and effective support for people with disabilities. Mr. Loc also expressed his admiration for the inspiring examples of young people and students with disabilities overcoming adversity, encouraging them and sharing his belief that "Where there is a will, there is a way."
Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan shared: "I feel I need to take more responsibility in mobilizing people to understand and help, creating conditions for people with disabilities to contribute to society." He also proposed several measures to support people with disabilities, such as establishing a dedicated communication channel for the hearing impaired, developing sign language learning in the community, and strengthening the links between large and small organizations for people with disabilities...
The exchange event was held to commemorate the first anniversary of the Hoa Da Group of Disabled Students - University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Over the past year, Hoa Da has actively supported disabled students at the University. At the event, recognizing the group's growth, the University's Student Union also announced and presented the official decision to establish the Hoa Da Club, part of the University's Student Union's system of clubs.
During the exchange, everyone had the opportunity to interact with many exemplary individuals with disabilities, such as Mr. Bach Quang Thai (former Chairman of the Hanoi Student Club for People with Disabilities), Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh (Hanoi Association for the Deaf), and enjoy cultural performances from disabled students and members of the Executive Committee of the Student Union and the Vietnam Youth Union.
On this occasion, 10 disabled students from the Hoa Da Club and the Hanoi Disabled Student Club received gifts from the Vietnam Youth Union.
