The Literature Drama Night, organized by the Student Union of the Faculty of Literature, took place on March 31, 2009, featuring 10 plays written and performed by the faculty's own students. The enthusiastic support of the audience and the actors' efforts to perform their roles well on stage created a vibrant, colorful, and distinctly student-oriented amateur theatrical event.
The performances showcased the students' particular fondness for theatrical arts, especially their significant efforts in self-training and staging. This is particularly meaningful at a time when the Faculty has just established a new Art Studies program, aiming to open up more career opportunities for students in the Literature department, who are often criticized for being solely focused on "academic literature" or "quoting and quoting." The plays were primarily based on famous literary works in the curriculum, but the students skillfully borrowed the content and plot, adapting the ideas into concise yet engaging short plays. The play "Medea"—which won first prize—was highly praised by the judges for its excellent script, good staging, and mature acting. The traditional Vietnamese opera "Tam Goes to the Festival" surprised the audience with its skillful performance, featuring amateur students singing and acting in a remarkably polished manner.
