Launching the contest "Hanoi - your rendezvous" at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities

On the afternoon of May 18, 2009, the City Union of Friendship Organizations in collaboration with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized the launching ceremony of the international contest to learn about Thang Long - Hanoi in 2009-2010 with the name "Hanoi - your rendezvous".

The contest is open to foreigners and the Vietnamese community abroad. Attending the launching ceremony were representatives of officials from many foreign embassies in Vietnam such as the embassies of Cuba, Australia, Cambodia, Russia... Many foreign students studying in Vietnam participated in the launching ceremony.

Since 2000, the contest has become an annual activity, each year with a different theme to help international friends learn about the history and culture of the capital Hanoi. In the early years, the contest was held in Esperanto, but in the past 4 years, the contest language has been expanded to 6 languages: English, French, Russian, Chinese, Esperanto and Vietnamese.

In 2008, the contest had the theme “Learning about historical works and cultural heritage of Hanoi” and had more than 1,400 entries. This year, the theme of the contest is “Towards the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi”. With this year's theme, the Organizing Committee wants to expand the scope of knowledge about Hanoi throughout its 1,000-year cultural history, from the ancient Thang Long, through many periods of development to today's Hanoi - a dynamic peaceful city in the open-door period, a capital - the political and administrative center of the country and a major center of culture, education, and economy of the country on the path of development and international integration.

At the launching ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Xuan Hang - Chairman of the City Union of Friendship Organizations, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest said: “To contribute to the common struggle for a world of peace, cooperation and development, the Organizing Committee of the contest calls on many international friends from all over the world, students from all countries studying at Vietnamese universities to enthusiastically participate in the contest to learn more about the history, culture and achievements that the people of the capital Hanoi have achieved in the period of innovation and international integration. Your enthusiastic participation will contribute significantly to the success of the contest and truly contribute to strengthening the friendship between people of countries around the world and the people of the capital Hanoi”.

Representing the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu - Vice Principal of the University - said: The University's leaders will create all conditions for students to participate in this competition. He also hopes that the University's students will actively participate and achieve many high awards in the competition. And according to the Associate Professor, the important thing is that through this competition, international friends will have more understanding, more love and attachment to the capital Hanoi.
