The 8th Congress of Delegates of the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, term 2018-2020

On May 4 and 5, 2018, the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU successfully organized the 8th Student Association Congress, term 2018-2020 with the participation of 200 student delegates.

The congress was attended by Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Principal of the School),Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim(Party Secretary, Vice Principal of the School),Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan(Vice Principal of the School), Dr. Tran Bach Hieu (Secretary of the School Youth Union).

The Presidium of the Congress includes the following comrades: ComradeTran Duc Hoa(Chairwoman of the School's Student Council); Comrade Hoang Thi Thao (Member of the School's Student Council), Comrade Vu Quang Huy (Member of the School's Student Council Executive Committee), Comrade Ngo Minh Chau (Member of the School's Student Council), Comrade Pham Thuy Phuong (Member of the School's Student Council).

The 8th Congress of the Student Association of the University is an important political event for members, students in particular and the University in general. The Congress has the task of evaluating the implementation results of the Resolution of the 7th National Congress of the Vietnam Student Association, term 2016-2018, determining the goals and directions of the Association's work and the student movement in the term 2018-2020.

The Congress recognized the outstanding achievements of the School's Student Association in the past term:

-Project “Simple Things”: The project with small group discussion scale has gone through 3 issues with the topics: “What is Humanity?”, “When will I grow up?”, “Is success happy?” attracting the attention of students. This series of activities creates a forum for students to freely share their views, perspectives and discuss youth issues; helps students form and improve their logical thinking ability; stimulates exploration and research; practices public speaking skills, improves the ability to lead problems and debate.

-Universal Values ​​Project: Providing students with basic understanding of human rights through a series of monthly talkshows - discussions - exhibitions. The talkshows are led by speakers with in-depth expertise, providing students with basic, academic knowledge, which is the basis for improving understanding and stimulating thinking.

-Humanities Book Tree: Exhibition and discussion space to expand the themes of Universal Values, encouraging reading and discussion on these themes based on good books.

-Freshmen Festival: Create a dynamic and open environment for freshmen to express themselves, join clubs, meet and connect with each other. In addition to camping, decorating booths, selling goods to raise funds, recruiting volunteers for clubs/groups/teams/groups, Freshmen Festival "I am K61" (2016-2017 school year) and "We are K62" (2017-2018 school year) especially attract students with music and street art exchanges on the minishow stage and the USSH Got Talent competition night for talented individuals.

-Summer Farewell: Open a special space for final year students to interact, meet, reminisce with friends and classmates, connect students with the Student Union and the School.

-Club activities: Gender Equality Humanities Club, Social Work Student Team, Stone Flower Club are 3 units that clearly demonstrate their colors in activities to build sustainable values.

The Gender Equality Humanities Club is a place to share knowledge about gender issues, gender stereotypes, and gender equality; organize and implement action programs to improve access to learning, employment, and advancement opportunities for women and girls; discuss to find out the causes and propose solutions to issues related to gender, gender stereotypes, and gender equality.

In January 2018, the Stone Flower Club implemented the project "Lens of Love" to help students gain more understanding about people with disabilities, thereby contributing to promoting the rights of people with disabilities in the school environment in particular and in life in general.

The program “May Knights” of the Social Work Student Team is an annual activity aimed at special groups in society, attracting a large number of students with attractive Talkshow topics: “Colorless” – Talkshow discussing respect for the LGBT community, “My Sun” – sharing of fathers and mothers with disabled children in raising and making friends with their children.

The above activities were organized with orientation, initially identifying the need to provide understanding of universal values ​​and creating opportunities for student members to access and practice these values, contributing to helping members and students achieve the criteria of Good Ethics and Good Integration in the 5 Good Students movement. All the series of activities were built by the Student Association of the school on the spirit of volunteerism, proactive participation, promoting the role of student members in creating content, expanding discussion topics and sharing.

The congress listened to comrade Tran Duc Hoa (Chairman of the Student Association of the 7th term) present the draft.Directions of the Association's work and student movement for the term 2018-2020.In order to implement the slogan of action "Students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU: Connectivity - Volunteerism - Creativity - Sustainability", in the period of 2018 - 2020, the Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will continue to promote the effective implementation of the movement "5 Good Students" and the program "Building a strong Vietnam Student Association".

This Congress also identified 4 key tasks for the Association and student movement of the School in the new term 2016-2019 including:

Firstly, invest in improving the quality and innovating solutions to enhance patriotism, national pride, pride in the tradition of the City's student movement, the tradition of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities student movement for students.

Second, to enhance political qualities, lifestyle ethics and dedication to the students of the School; to foster comprehensive thinking, steadfast stance, clear views on political and social issues, to train independence, self-determination, determination, creativity, appropriate attitudes and ways of handling complex situations of the country and the world; to be sensitive to new things and develop the ability to self-innovate.

Third, innovate and improve the effectiveness of training solutions in the "5 Good Students" movement, thereby building a generation of students with revolutionary ideals, a beautiful lifestyle, understanding and abiding by the law; actively competing in studying, scientific research, creatively grasping new technology; comprehensively developing in culture - sports - aesthetics; having a spirit of volunteering to serve the community; proactively preparing for international integration.

Fourth, invest in creative methods of operation, strengthen the work of gathering students through promoting the role of the system of Clubs - Teams - Groups; promote the work of promoting "5 Good Students" after commendation to improve the quality of the Association's work and the Student movement; strengthen the survey of student needs, survey the effectiveness of activities, create conditions for students to participate in contributing ideas and solutions for the Association's work and the Student movement of the school.

With 02 serious and democratic working sessions, the Congress consulted 21 comrades into the Executive Committee of the Student Union, term VIII, 2018 - 2020.

The 8th Congress of the Vietnam Student Association of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU, for the 2018-2020 term ended successfully, opening a new term with many new opportunities and determination, promising new successes for the Association's work and the student movement of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU in the coming time.
