On June 16, 2009, a delegation from Shanghai University, led by Professor Han Ping - Deputy Secretary, visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Receiving the delegation were Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector, Professor Mai Ngoc Chu - Head of the Department of Oriental Studies, Dr. Nghiem Thuy Hang - Director of the Center for Chinese Studies, and Dr. Tran Thuy Anh - Head of the International Relations Department.

Receiving the delegation were Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh - Rector, Professor Mai Ngoc Chu - Head of the Department of Oriental Studies, Dr. Nghiem Thuy Hang - Director of the Center for Chinese Studies, and Dr. Tran Thuy Anh - Head of the International Relations Department.
The two sides exchanged a great deal of information on training and scientific research activities, and held initial discussions on opportunities for future cooperation.

It is part of the Chinese government's Project 211, which aims to build 100 key universities. The president is Professor Qian Weizhang, one of China's most renowned scientists, educators, and social activists. Shanghai University comprises 24 colleges and one Faculty of Architecture, offering 68 undergraduate majors, 131 master's degree programs, and 54 doctoral programs. The fields of study are diverse, ranging from natural sciences, social sciences, and arts to applied sciences. The total staff is 5300, including 450 professors, 850 associate professors, and 10 academicians. The university has 26,000 students, including 8,000 postgraduate students, 10,000 undergraduate students, and 2,700 international students. Shanghai University aims to train students to be professionally competent, physically healthy, and ambitious individuals with the ideals of serving the state and society.
According to Professor Han Ping, Shanghai University accepts international students from 93 countries. At its peak, the number of Vietnamese students at the university was 110, and currently stands at 94. Professor Ping highly praised the academic abilities of Vietnamese students, stating that they consistently rank among the top students at Shanghai University. He said: “Vietnamese students are not only outstanding and exemplary students, but also ambassadors of Vietnam-China friendship.”
Professor Nguyen Van Khanh also briefly introduced the activities of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, particularly emphasizing the potential of the University in Vietnamese linguistics training. The University has trained approximately 5000 foreign students, many of whom have become ambassadors to their respective countries in Vietnam, including Chinese ambassadors Hu Qianwen, Li Jiazhong, and Qi Jianguo... Currently, there are about 300 Chinese students studying in Vietnam.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged information on talent recruitment policies, scholarship programs, tuition fees, study conditions for international students, development orientations for key industries, and mechanisms for awarding academic titles and degrees at each university.
