The VNU Student Dormitory Center and the Psychological Support and Counseling Center, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, coordinated to organize a seminar to provide consultation and support for university entrance exam candidates on the evening of July 2, 2009 at the Me Tri Dormitory Cultural House.

The program has the participation of many psychological experts and doctors such as Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Thu - Head of the Department of Psychology, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Thi Minh Chi - Director of the Center for Age Psychology, Hanoi National University of Education, Dr. Phan Quoc Viet - General Director of Tam Viet Group...

The discussion revolves around the main contents: signs of stress during exams and how to recognize them, methods to control stress during exams, instructions on how to review and take exams effectively, instructions on relaxation exercises to help reduce stress...

According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Hang (Head of the Department of Clinical Psychology), stress during exam season is something that most candidates encounter and it is also a normal thing in life. It is a human psychological reaction to the pressures in life. Mild symptoms are just a feeling of nervousness, anxiety, heart palpitations... and last for a short period of time. If the symptoms are more severe, it can cause loss of appetite, loss of health and spirit, leading to the inability to pass the exam well. Therefore, each candidate needs to learn how to balance their own psychology and know how to overcome stress. However, Dr. Hang also believes that a little anxiety can also be a good stimulant, creating motivation for candidates to study.

Dr. Nguyen Thu Huong (University of Social Sciences and Humanities) mentioned the influence of family on the psychology of candidates and sometimes the excessive expectations of parents are the biggest cause of stress in children. And Dr. Huong's advice is that families should have moderate and reasonable attention and encouragement for their children. Parents should absolutely avoid forcing their children to do things they do not like as well as setting goals that are too high compared to their children's abilities and aspirations. As for candidates, the psychologist advised that they should try their best and be satisfied with what they have done.

Dr. Phan Quoc Viet brought to the exchange a very witty and funny presentation with the slogan "Whether you think you can or you can't, you are right". To achieve something, we must first have faith and strong desire. Pessimism and fear are the most dangerous enemies of humans. Therefore, candidates must have a comfortable and happy spirit to enter the exam to be able to develop more than 100% of their abilities.

At the exchange session, candidates were guided on-site by psychological experts in relaxation exercises to reduce fatigue and stress. At the same time, many questions from candidates were answered directly by teachers such as: issues about eating and drinking during the exam, review methods, test-taking skills, effective measures to relieve stress immediately...
