The University of Social Sciences and Humanities considers student scientific research (SSR) as a crucial activity in improving the quality of education. Not only is it a regular activity attracting the participation of a large number of students from across the university, but in recent years, SSR has undergone many innovations in organization and development orientation to move beyond mere fads and delve deeper into the field, producing many high-quality works with diverse topics, closely aligned with practical applications and major research areas of various disciplines. At this conference, Associate Professor Dr. Lam Ba Nam – Vice Rector – reaffirmed this policy, stating:To build the university into a research-oriented institution, student research must be considered a fundamental and crucial activity to improve the quality of education and the university's standing... However, to affirm, survive, and develop, we cannot simply advocate for lifelong learning and a learning society in a general sense. Only through genuine learning can we have a high-quality workforce capable of integrating into the current globalized context."
For many years, the University's Youth Union has actively participated in supporting students in their research. According to Mr. Duc Anh, Head of the Youth Union's Professional Committee, the Youth Union regularly organizes seminars every year to guide students on the process of implementing a research project, from choosing a topic and methodology to presentation skills. Research projects aligned with the Youth Union's direction or contributing to the development of the Youth Union movement are also supported and facilitated by the Youth Union. Based on the evaluation results of student research conferences at all levels, projects that achieve good results according to the above directions will be awarded prizes by the Youth Union.
This year, 1026 students participated in scientific research (accounting for 18.9% of the university's full-time students) with 697 reports. The implementation of scientific research in the faculties began in November 2008. In March and April 2009, the student scientific research conferences at the faculty and department levels were conducted seriously. Several faculties with a long tradition in the university's student scientific research movement continued to lead in the number of reports this year, such as History - 93 reports, Oriental Studies - 78 reports, Literature - 78 reports, Philosophy - 63 reports, Archival Studies and Office Management - 63 reports.

This year's student research reports also received much praise from the professors. Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phung (Head of the Subcommittee on Tourism Studies - Management Science - Archival Studies and Office Administration - Library Information) stated that students have chosen many meaningful research topics, both relevant to their profession and geared towards meeting societal needs. This shows that the students have a strong sense of awareness, enthusiasm, and passion for scientific research, knowing how to seek and update new information, being creative, and having a direction to contribute to their profession, to the training issues of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in particular, as well as many major issues of the country. Regarding research skills, students have demonstrated the ability to apply basic research methods appropriately, to check and evaluate source materials, and to approach problems from theory to practice. This significantly contributes to the quality of this year's student research projects. Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phung also added:Another notable improvement compared to previous years is the students' excellent presentation skills. Not only are they very confident in presenting their reports and answering questions from the panel, but they also demonstrate a high level of eagerness to learn and improve. This is truly valuable, especially for those working in science.”
Agreeing with the above opinion, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Hao (Head of the Philosophy - Political Science - Psychology - Sociology Subcommittee) affirmed that this year's student scientific conference was very well organized, with a large number of participating reports, many of which were of high quality. He stated:"Quite a few first-year students have participated in scientific research and even won awards. That's surprising, but also very encouraging and should be promoted."

However, regarding awards, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Duc Phuong (Head of the Literature - Linguistics - Journalism and Communication Subcommittee) suggested that there should be higher prize money for group awards. Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phung proposed that, within the permissible limits, the funding for student scientific research projects should be increased to give students better opportunities to do their best. Teachers who supervise many students with high-quality projects should be recognized and rewarded by the university. The evaluation committee for student projects that win awards at the university level should include staff from various departments to ensure a more accurate assessment.
At the conclusion of the conference, the School awarded 7 team prizes and 63 individual prizes, including 13 first prizes, 21 second prizes, and 29 third prizes. The Student Union also awarded 5 prizes for projects with practical significance for student learning and activities.
Over the years, the Student Research Program of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has consistently won numerous high awards from the Ministry of Education and Training. Based on these research achievements, many students have been awarded scholarships to study abroad. The university has also received several commendations from the Ministry of Education and Training for its outstanding achievements in student research. In the 2007-2008 academic year, among 17 projects submitted to the Ministry-level competition, the university's students won 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize, and 4 consolation prizes.
