Delegation of the Lao Women's Union visits the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

On August 13, 2018, a delegation from the Lao Women's Union, led by Ms. Ilavanh Keobounphanh (Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, President of the Lao Women's Union), visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Tran Thi Minh Hoa introduced the delegation to basic information about the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. As a leading training and research center in the country for social sciences and humanities, the University currently has 15 faculties, one institute, and one affiliated department. The university's expert team includes approximately 10 professors, over 100 associate professors, and more than 200 PhDs. The total number of students is approximately 13,000, including about 1,000 international students. The University currently has partnerships with over 300 leading universities in the region and around the world.

In response to concerns about the role of women in the university, Associate Professor Tran Thi Minh Hoa shared: Currently, women account for 54% of the total staff, including 2 female professors and 40 female associate professors. The university has 3 out of 9 department heads who are women, 3 faculty heads, and 16 deputy faculty heads who are women.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Ilavanh Keobounphanh highly appreciated the position and reputation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. She hoped that in the near future, the University would send delegations to visit Laos to implement signed cooperation agreements and exchange experiences with Lao universities. Ms. Ilavanh Keobounphanh also highly appreciated the educational level of Vietnamese women. She added that Laos is currently building and organizing many offices for the advancement of women, aiming to care for and support Lao women in social life, especially to improve the number and quality of female intellectuals.
