The conference is a thematic meeting activity, aiming to thoroughly grasp the policy and direction of innovation in communication activities, contributing to increasing brand value and developing VNU in the coming time.
Speaking at the Conference, VNU President Nguyen Kim Son said that communication activities in recent times have made many efforts and achieved certain results, but they are not commensurate with the potential and strengths of VNU in general and its units in particular. Innovation is needed to meet the requirements of advanced university management today.
The Director of VNU pointed out that communication is a part of university management activities, aiming at specific goals. For VNU, communication activities aim at the sustainable development of VNU, focusing on the quality of student output, the quality of scientific research activities, training, development cooperation, enrollment, student employment, etc.
In that spirit, the Director of VNU directs that in the coming time, communication activities need to implement the following specific contents:
Firstly, there needs to be innovation and promotion of communication work in the coming time, especially internal communication work to match the goals of VNU set out in the VNU development strategy to 2020, vision 2030. There needs to be participation of all member and affiliated units in the whole VNU; communication work needs to be done professionally, synchronously and closely linked to policies related to specific, feasible and effective communication activities.
Second, the principles for implementing communication work of VNU in the coming time must be approached in the fields of science and technology activities, training, and transparency in management, policies, and the right to information of the entire community, staff, lecturers, and students.
Third, it is necessary to organize review and training to improve the capacity and professional qualifications of the staff working in communications at the units. At the same time, it is necessary to focus on supplementing and investing in facilities, funding, and equipment for the operation of the unit's communications activities.
Fourth, functional departments and units need to establish communication content in the operational plan to select outstanding communication products, and at the same time coordinate with the VNU Office in managing information in a fast, timely and accurate manner.
Appreciating the role and responsibility of the head in communications work, and at the same time being the person directly in charge of communications work of VNU, the Director of VNU requires the Heads of member and affiliated units of VNU to be the person in charge of communications work and the person responsible for speaking to the public about the activities of the unit under their leadership.
The Director of VNU said that units need to be proactive, timely and regular in informing staff, lecturers and students.
“We need to have a common awareness that all staff, lecturers and students need to understand the role of communication work, especially in conjunction with the awareness of the VNU brand, enhancing the self-esteem and pride of individuals in the university environment where they work, study and are attached to” – VNU President Nguyen Kim Son shared.
Previously, within the framework of the Conference, Deputy Chief of Office of VNU Mai Hoang Anh presented an overview of the implementation of communication and brand management work of VNU in the past time; the plan of activities in the coming time. In addition to evaluating some outstanding results in communication work of VNU in general and the unit in particular in the past time, the Report also pointed out the shortcomings and limitations of communication work in the past time such as: staff working in communication work; coordination between communication departments of units; website system management issues; management of network accounts; management of publications and communication/brand products, etc.
At the conference, delegates listened to and discussed the topic of the role of social networks in internal communication presented by Dr. Nguyen Thu Giang, lecturer of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Heads of units under VNU also shared a lot of information and experience in communication work and handling communication crises.
