Professor Detlef Briesen (University of Giessen - Federal Republic of Germany) gave presentations and discussions on the topic "Development Cooperation in Regional Studies, Regional Development and Sustainability in Europe and Southeast Asia" at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, at the invitation of the Faculty of Political Science.The presentations took place in the mornings from February 14th to 17th, 2012, with specific content for each session:
- Spatial analysis as a methodological and theoretical approach in social science and cultural research: from local, regional, national to global studies and vice versa.
- The interdisciplinary nature of the regional approach in social and cultural studies: for example, research from history, geography, economics, anthropology, sociology, and political science.
- Traditions/Experiences and Institutions of Regional Studies in Europe. Examples from Germany, the UK, and France.
- Regional development and its "pillars": ecological sustainability, economic sustainability, and social relations.

The presentations were attended by a large number of faculty members, students, and trainees from various fields including Political Science, Vietnamese Studies, Archival Studies and Office Management, International Studies, Philosophy, etc. This activity helps to strengthen interaction with international scholars, exchange academic issues, and improve the quality of training and research. According to the plan, Professor Detlef Briesen will return to Vietnam in early April.
