Supporting students to start creative businesses: Breakthrough solutions needed

Friday - March 18, 2022 11:44
On the afternoon of March 18, 2022, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong (Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) and leaders of a number of departments, offices and units in the University had a working session with Dr. Mac Quoc Anh (Party Secretary, Vice President and General Secretary of the Association; Vice President of the Anti-Counterfeiting Fund; Director of the Institute of Economics and Enterprise Development); Dr. Pham Duc Nghiem (Deputy Director of the Department of Market Development and Industrial Science Enterprises - Ministry of Science and Technology) and Ms. Tran Thi Trang (Deputy Head of the Department of Creative Startup Support, Hanoi Enterprise Support Center under the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment).

Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong shared: Strengthening the close connection between the School and businesses and recruitment units is a major policy that the Board of Directors is very interested in, in order to best support students in studying, scientific research, internships, practice as well as finding suitable jobs after graduation. The key content is to support and stimulate the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation right from when they are still in school, even for high school students.

Dr. Mac Quoc Anh highly appreciated the policies and activities supporting student startups of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in recent years and committed: businesses in Hanoi will always accompany the school in the following activities: sponsoring the "0 Dong Supermarket" project, inviting CEOs and successful entrepreneurs of enterprises belonging to the Association to participate in forums, seminars, and sharing sessions with students of the school about their experiences and skills for successful startups. In addition, businesses will provide financial support for scientific research and creative ideas of students; creating conditions for transferring the results of those studies into practice.

Dr. Pham Duc Nghiem shared: in the projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, we focus on developing cooperation with institutes, schools and training institutions to develop centers to support creative startups, not only in the fields of technology, economics, engineering but also in the fields of social sciences and humanities. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has strengths in training high-quality human resources, as well as providing good experts and scientists in the fields of social sciences and humanities. With the function of supporting the formation and development of science and technology enterprises, we are committed to being ready to support and accompany the creative startup activities of the school's students.

Ms. Tran Thi Trang said that Hanoi City as well as the Hanoi Enterprise Support Center (under the Department of Planning and Investment) have many projects and activities: building "idea incubators" right in universities to create conditions for students to have an environment to develop creative ideas; supporting funding for seminars, organizing training courses on start-ups, study tours abroad for students... Therefore, with the strength of social sciences, the University should propose cooperation models with agencies, organizations, and businesses to further promote the spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity in students and support to develop those ideas into reality, bringing value to society.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu (Principal of the High School for the Gifted) said: “Not only students, but also high school students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities have many very good creative ideas, very valuable for the community, but then cannot continue to develop those ideas. Therefore, perhaps there is still a need for breakthrough solutions to create comprehensive support in terms of knowledge, skills, and finance so that students of the school's social sciences and humanities dare to start a business and start a business successfully.”

At the end of the working session, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Thanh Truong once again thanked the state management agencies of science and technology, businesses for their support in training and supporting students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and emphasized the need to build models of cooperation, support, and knowledge transfer in the fields of social sciences and humanities between training institutions and businesses. The school will develop specific cooperation plans between the school and the parties participating in today's working session to implement activities to support student startups: building a number of startup spaces on campus; organizing a number of startup idea competitions; financial support, etc. Through these activities, first of all, the awareness of students will be changed: only technology, engineering, and economics can start up; then it will also contribute to connecting the school with businesses and recruiting units. Through activities supporting student start-up projects, businesses can also find talented employees, as well as good ideas that are suitable for their business development orientation.
