The conference heard reports on the implementation results of the proposals.n components of the Strategic Mission at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, recording the achievements and pointing out the difficulties that need to be resolved in implementing the Strategic Mission at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
In March 2007, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities submitted to VNU 16 projects for international-standard training majors and specialties, including 5 bachelor's degree projects, 6 master's degree projects and 5 doctoral degree projects. After considering the actual conditions, the University decided to pilot 3 projects: Project for developing Linguistics, Project for developing Vietnamese History major at master's level, Project for developing Ancient and Medieval Vietnamese History major at doctoral level. These three projects were implemented since 2008. The Executive Board of the Project "Building and developing a number of international-standard training majors and specialties" of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was also established.
After many years of implementing projects under the NVCL, some initial successes have been recorded: the staff and lecturers have been improved in terms of qualifications, professional qualifications, foreign languages, teaching methods and scientific research; training programs have been built in accordance with output standards and international standards, the system of learning materials and lectures has been compiled and adjusted to suit the training levels; a number of bachelors, masters and doctors have been initially trained with professional qualifications and foreign languages to meet the requirements of high-quality human resources of society; scientific research activities have been promoted in both quantity and depth, towards international integration; creating initial changes in the world's university governance model and criteria.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc and Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu chaired the Conference.
However, the implementation process also revealed limitations: the number of students enrolled has not met the target because the criteria are too high, especially the foreign language standards; the number of lecturers participating in the program has decreased due to the high recruitment standards; there are no scientific topics at VNU level that give priority to the implementation of component projects; sending students and trainees for internships abroad faces many difficulties...
Delegates also recommended: it is necessary to open parallel standard training programs alongside the NVCL programs to overcome the difficulty of recruiting students; there needs to be more open sharing between those who design the project and those who implement the project in practice; NVCL needs to consider supporting the publication of books and the publication of research works of lecturers and students; it is necessary to pay attention to the specific characteristics of international-class training for the fields of Social Sciences and Humanities, especially in foreign language standards...
Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc assessed: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has proactively grasped and implemented the NVCL, carefully prepared with the best possible choices, and with high determination. The University has made outstanding efforts and achieved initial successes, the most outstanding achievement of which is improving the quality of its staff. In addition to the resources of VNU, the University has actively mobilized other resources to invest in NVCL. The University's NVCL projects are implemented at all levels of bachelor, master and doctorate, these practical results will be an important basis for appropriate policy adjustments in the following years.
Responding to feedback at the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc also emphasized: First of all, international-class training is a process and must have an appropriate roadmap to implement and achieve the goals, it cannot be rushed. In addition, the investment level for NVCL projects is still limited, not commensurate with the set goals. In the near future, it is necessary to have a plan to review and evaluate the current situation of students and graduates of NVCL programs to record feedback from learners. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc said that, with its conditions, the School can completely aim to open more CLC training programs and talent training in the near future.
