During the meeting, Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced the history of training and research at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, highlighting its status as a leading institution for social sciences and humanities education in Vietnam. He proposed collaboration between the University and the University of Western Sydney, suggesting several areas of cooperation such as joint research projects, international scientific conferences, faculty exchange, and the publication of exemplary research from both institutions.
Dr. Ien Ang welcomed the proposal from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh and stated that the University of Western Sydney is very keen to cooperate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In particular, she proposed organizing an international conference on “Local and Global Change in Urban Vietnam: Towards Engaged Research” (tentative), to be held by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Institute of Culture and Society, University of Western Sydney, at the end of March 2015. The conference aims to research trends of local and global social change in Vietnam, starting in urban areas such as Hanoi.
Associate Professor Pham Quang Minh fully agreed with the above idea and proposed that both sides sign a memorandum of understanding to promote cooperation, thereby aiming to establish potential for joint research in the future.
The University of Western Sydney is a system of six campuses located in Western Sydney – Great Western Sydney, Australia's third-largest commercial and economic hub. This area is renowned for its rapidly developing and robust economy; 150 of Australia's top 500 companies are located in Great Western Sydney.
