Implementing cooperation with Chosun University (South Korea)

On July 28, 2014, a delegation led by Dr. Park Hai-Chun (Vice President of Chosun University, South Korea) visited and worked at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The delegation was received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim (Vice President) and representatives from the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the Department of External Relations and International Cooperation.

During the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim briefly introduced the history of training and research at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, highlighting its status as a leading institution for social sciences and humanities education in Vietnam. The university currently has 13,000 students across all programs, over 700 faculty and staff members, conducts 14 state-level research projects annually, and maintains international relations with over 200 universities worldwide. The university will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2015. Based on the previously signed cooperation agreement, he proposed the implementation of cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Chosun University.

Dr. Park Hai-Chun expressed his delight at the warm welcome from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and his desire to promote more concrete and detailed cooperation in areas such as student and faculty exchange, as well as organizing scientific conferences. He noted that the Korean government is increasingly paying attention to Southeast Asia in general and Vietnam in particular.

Through this, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim happily suggested several areas of cooperation such as: organizing joint research projects and scientific conferences on issues such as multicultural family relations between Vietnam and Korea, labor exchange between Vietnam and Korea, the Korean cultural wave in Vietnam, and Korean investment in Vietnam... In particular, he proposed organizing a scientific conference with the tentative theme "The Role of Education in the Industrialization and Modernization of Vietnam and Korea" to exchange educational experiences between the two countries. In addition, he expressed his desire to establish a center for Vietnamese studies at Chosun University and expand cooperation in 2+2 and 1+3 training programs between the two sides, with the Department of Korean Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, acting as the coordinating body.

Chosun University was founded in December 1946 in Gwangju City, in southern South Korea, 400km from the capital Seoul. It covers an area of ​​nearly 2 million square meters.2Comprising 32 buildings, Chosun University is one of the largest universities. It includes 14 colleges, 7 affiliated institutes, 5 independent departments, 76 majors, and 10 graduate schools. The university has 1,500 faculty members and 23,000 students enrolled.
