In July 2014, Vietnam was the host country of the International Chemistry Olympiad for nearly 300 contestants from more than 75 countries to attend. In particular, the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to preside over this activity. In addition to the competition activities strictly organized according to general regulations, the International Chemistry Olympiad week is also an opportunity to promote the image of the country and people of Vietnam to international friends. Therefore, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities became one of the units accompanying the University of Natural Sciences to coordinate the organization of sightseeing activities in Hanoi and entertainment for the delegations during the Olympic period.
TASS Travel Vietnam Science and Tourism Services Company Limited, a unit under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, is the unit directly surveying, organizing and implementing tourism programs for the group during this time.
On the morning of July 22, 2014, the first visit of the delegation took place at Bat Trang pottery village with nearly 400 members of the IChO 2014 delegation. Students from many countries participated in many meaningful activities such as: listening to an introduction to the history of the pottery village, witnessing artisans instructing how to distinguish ceramic lines and demonstrating traditional pottery making methods. Members of the delegation had the opportunity to directly practice on the products, sculpting and shaping any product according to their imagination, or showing their artistic talent through coloring on plain products. These are also souvenirs with traditional Vietnamese cultural values that the students brought back to their country after the trip.
In addition to participating in creative tourism activities, students also have the opportunity to visit the traditional market of the pottery village, where traditional and modern ceramic products of Bat Trang pottery village are sold. Students can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the village market and freely search for small, lovely products as meaningful souvenirs for relatives and friends after this meaningful trip. These will be unforgettable memories for international friends about a peaceful Hanoi with warm-hearted Vietnamese people.
With the warm and enthusiastic welcome of the host at Bat Trang pottery village, along with the enthusiastic support of volunteers and the dynamism, flexibility and thoughtfulness of TASS staff, the visit went well, leaving many meaningful memories for the group.
