In July 2014, Vietnam hosted the International Chemistry Olympiad, with nearly 300 contestants from over 75 countries participating. The University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was assigned by the Ministry of Education and Training to lead this event. Besides the rigorously organized competitions, the International Chemistry Olympiad week also served as an opportunity to promote the image of Vietnam and its people to the international community. Therefore, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities partnered with the University of Science to organize sightseeing tours of Hanoi and recreational activities for the participating delegations during the Olympiad.
TASS Travel Vietnam, a subsidiary of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, is the unit directly responsible for surveying, organizing, and implementing the tour programs for the group during this period.
On the morning of July 22, 2014, the first visit of the delegation took place at Bat Trang pottery village with nearly 400 members of the IChO 2014 group. Students from various countries participated in many meaningful activities such as: listening to presentations about the history of the pottery village, witnessing artisans demonstrating how to distinguish different types of ceramics and showcasing traditional pottery-making techniques. Members of the delegation had the opportunity to practice directly on products, molding and shaping any product according to their imagination, or expressing their artistic talent by painting on plain ceramics. These are also souvenirs representing traditional Vietnamese culture that the students will take back to their countries after the trip.
In addition to participating in creative tourism activities, the students also had the opportunity to visit the traditional market of the pottery village, where traditional and modern ceramic products from Bat Trang pottery village were sold. They immersed themselves in the atmosphere of the village market and happily searched for small, lovely items to make meaningful souvenirs for family and friends after this memorable trip. These will be unforgettable memories for international friends about a peaceful Hanoi with warm and hospitable Vietnamese people.
Thanks to the warm and enthusiastic welcome from the hosts at Bat Trang pottery village, along with the dedicated support of volunteers and the dynamic, flexible, and thoughtful service of the TASS staff, the visit went smoothly, leaving many memorable and meaningful experiences for the delegation.
