During the opening ceremony of the course, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) delivered a speech emphasizing the important role of Religious Studies in the development of each nation. At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, this field of study has a long history within the Faculty of Philosophy, offering three levels of training from bachelor's to doctoral degrees. In 2007, the Center for Contemporary Religious Studies was established to expand research activities, support training, and provide advice on religious-related issues to serve national development and international cooperation. To date, the University is a reputable venue for organizing international conferences on religion, with the participation of many scientists and experts researching religion worldwide. In addition, training and knowledge enhancement programs on religion for staff working in this field, organized by the University in collaboration with local authorities, have contributed to meeting the practical demands of national development.

The specific content of this course covers research methods on religion and law; the relationship between religion and law; theoretical issues in the study of religion and law; experiences in resolving issues of religion and law around the world; and achievements in implementing religious policies in Vietnam and some other countries.
The course provides an opportunity for Vietnamese scientists, officials, and international scholars to exchange and share experiences and research findings on religion and the rule of law.
This is the third time the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has collaborated with partners to organize this course in Vietnam. Within the framework of cooperation with Brigham Young University (BYU) and the Institute for Global Engagement (USA), from 2012 to the present, the University has successfully organized two short-term training courses on religion and the rule of law in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. These two courses attracted a large number of participants, including religious affairs officials and university lecturers in the fields of political science, law, and religion from provinces and cities in both the North and South of Vietnam.
