Conference to summarize union activities of the 2013-2014 school year at Hanoi National University

On the morning of September 16, 2014, at the West Lake Water Park auditorium, the Hanoi National University Trade Union held a conference to summarize the trade union activities of the 2013-2014 school year. Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Tran Cong Phong - Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - Member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Education and Training - President of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, representatives of the leaders of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; representatives of the Party Committee and Board of Directors of Hanoi National University (VNU); VNU trade union officers and exemplary trade union officers. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities Trade Union had 16 delegates attending the conference led by Mr. Dang Quang Thai - Standing Member of the University Trade Union.

VNU Trade Union is the direct superior trade union at the grassroots level with a total of 3,610 teachers and workers, including 2,011 female staff; 354 ​​professors and associate professors; 877 PhDs; 1,375 Masters.

In the 2013-2014 school year, the activities of the VNU Trade Union had many positive changes and achieved good results in many fields. The Trade Union has promoted its role as a spiritual support for teachers and workers, participating in solving difficulties, resolving concerns and worries of trade union members in the context of VNU restructuring its affiliated units. The Trade Union always cares about the material and spiritual life of each union member. In the past school year, the VNU Trade Union has provided support to 14 union members in difficult circumstances with an amount of 5 million VND/person.

VNU Trade Union has also done a good job of propagating and mobilizing union members to implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; especially propagating the Resolution of the 8th Conference of the 11th Party Central Committee on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training in many diverse forms such as organizing seminars, workshops... The Trade Union has actively organized emulation movements and large-scale campaigns, notably the program to support Truong Sa and Hoang Sa with the amount of money collected being 494,168,000 VND.

In addition to the achieved results, the Executive Board of VNU frankly acknowledged the limitations and shortcomings that need to be overcome, and at the same time proposed 11 key tasks for trade union activities in the 2014-2015 school year.

Speaking at the Conference, Comrade Tran Cong Phong highly appreciated the activities of the VNU Trade Union in the past school year, such as: Organizing a workshop to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Uncle Ho's last letter to the education sector; a talk show on "The role of the VNU Trade Union in implementing fundamental and comprehensive innovation in higher education"; organizing social and charitable activities, etc., creating very good social effects. Comrade Tran Cong Phong also suggested that in the coming time, the VNU Trade Union should perform well a number of key tasks, and at the same time believed that under the close direction of the Party Committee, the attention of the VNU Board of Directors, the dynamism and creativity of the VNU Trade Union Executive Committee, the activities of the VNU Trade Union will reap even more success in the coming school year.

At the Conference, the leaders of the Vietnam Education Trade Union and the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union awarded Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Vietnam Education Trade Union to groups and individuals; awarded Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union to 27 groups and 274 individuals. Of which, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was honored to be one of the five university trade unions nationwide to receive the Excellent Emulation Flag from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, 01 individual received a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, 02 groups and 02 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam Education Trade Union, 06 groups and 48 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union.
