Conference summarizing trade union activities for the 2013-2014 academic year at Hanoi National University.
On the morning of September 16, 2014, at the West Lake Water Park auditorium, the Trade Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) held a conference to summarize its activities for the 2013-2014 academic year. Attending the conference were Professor Tran Cong Phong – Member of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Education and Training, and President of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; representatives from the leadership of the Vietnam Education Trade Union; representatives from the Party Committee and Board of Directors of VNU; VNU trade union officials; and outstanding trade union officials. The Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had 16 delegates attending the conference, led by Mr. Dang Quang Thai – Standing Committee Member of the University's Trade Union.
The Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union is a higher-level trade union directly above the grassroots level, with a total of 3,610 teachers and employees, including 2,011 female staff; 354 professors and associate professors; 877 doctors; and 1,375 masters.
During the 2013-2014 academic year, the activities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) Trade Union showed many positive changes and achieved good results in various fields. The Trade Union played a crucial role as a source of moral support for teachers and employees, participating in resolving difficulties and alleviating the concerns and anxieties of its members in the context of VNU's restructuring of its affiliated units. The Trade Union consistently paid attention to the material and spiritual well-being of each member. In the past academic year, the VNU Trade Union provided support to 14 members in difficult circumstances, with each receiving 5 million VND.
The Trade Union of Vietnam National University, Hanoi has also done a good job of disseminating information and mobilizing its members to implement the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations; especially disseminating the Resolution of the 8th Conference of the Central Committee of the 11th Party Congress on fundamental and comprehensive reform of education and training through various forms such as organizing seminars and workshops… The Trade Union has actively organized emulation movements and major campaigns, most notably the program to support Truong Sa and Hoang Sa, which raised 494,168,000 VND.
Besides the achievements, the Executive Committee of VNU Hanoi frankly acknowledged the limitations and shortcomings that need to be overcome, and at the same time set out 11 key tasks for trade union activities in the 2014-2015 academic year.
In his remarks at the Conference, Comrade Tran Cong Phong highly appreciated the activities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union in the past academic year, notably: organizing a seminar commemorating the 45th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's last letter to the education sector; holding a discussion on "The role of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union in implementing fundamental and comprehensive reforms in higher education"; organizing social and charitable activities, etc., creating a very positive social impact. Comrade Tran Cong Phong also suggested that in the coming time, the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union should effectively carry out several key tasks, and expressed confidence that under the close guidance of the Party Committee, the attention of the Board of Directors of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the dynamism and creativity of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union, the activities of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Trade Union will achieve even more success in the coming academic year.
At the Conference, leaders of the Vietnam Education Trade Union and the Hanoi National University Trade Union awarded Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Vietnam Education Trade Union to collectives and individuals; and awarded Certificates of Merit from the Hanoi National University Trade Union to 27 collectives and 274 individuals. Among them, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was honored to be one of the five university trade unions nationwide to receive the comprehensive excellence flag from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; one individual received a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; two collectives and two individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam Education Trade Union; and six collectives and 48 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Hanoi National University Trade Union.
