On June 14-15, a seminar titled "Promoting the Role of Buddhism in the Socialization of Social Work and Charity" was held at Phat Quang Pagoda (Rach Gia City, Kien Giang Province).

The workshop was organized by the Central Committee for Social Charity in coordination with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Participants included Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Chairman of the Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thich Quang Tung, Vice Chairman of the Central Executive Council and Head of the Central Committee for Social Charity; Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Professor Pham Quang Minh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and nearly 500 delegates including Venerable monks from the Buddhist Social Charity Committees of provinces and cities; leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of provinces and cities; and scientists, researchers, and scholars from across the country.

Speaking about the significance of the seminar, the leader of the Central Front organization stated that, based on the fundamental values ​​of the "Six Perfections" (Generosity, Morality, Patience, Diligence, Meditation, and Wisdom) and the "Four Immeasurable Minds" (Loving-kindness, Compassion, Joy, and Equanimity), along with the tradition of "Protecting the Nation and Ensuring the People's Peace," and accompanying the nation, Vietnamese Buddhism has, over the years, always upheld the tradition of patriotism, solidarity, and close association with the nation, sharing responsibility with society and the country, actively responding to and participating in social welfare activities, patriotic emulation movements, and campaigns launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front and various ministries, departments, and organizations; contributing to the successful implementation of the Party and State's policy of socializing the fields of grassroots healthcare, preschool education, social assistance activities, vocational training, etc.

"With the attention, coordination, and assistance of Party committees, government agencies, the Fatherland Front, and relevant ministries and departments at all levels, many exemplary Buddhist models have emerged nationwide, participating in various fields of activity and attracting trillions of dong in resources to work with the Party, State, and Vietnam Fatherland Front to improve the lives of all strata of the people, especially those facing difficult circumstances and needing social assistance," Mr. Tran Thanh Man affirmed.

However, according to Mr. Tran Thanh Man, for Vietnamese Buddhism to contribute even better to the socialization of social work and charity, positive and synchronized solutions are needed, encompassing management and support from state agencies and the Fatherland Front; guidance and direction from all levels of the Buddhist Sangha; and the quality of organization and operation of institutions, organizations, and individuals directly involved in the work. A national conference is also required.Promoting the role of Buddhism in participating in social work and charity.It has been organized.

"The workshop is an opportunity to share information, exchange experiences, and unify understanding of the state's policies, laws, and regulations; the responsibilities of religious leaders, followers, all levels of the Church, relevant agencies, and to find solutions to further enhance the role of Vietnamese Buddhism in participating in social work, charity, and social welfare," - part of the opening remarks stated.

Therefore, Mr. Tran Thanh Man suggested that delegates take advantage of this important meeting to find solutions to enhance the role of Vietnamese Buddhism in effectively participating in the socialization of social welfare, humanitarian work, and charity, making practical contributions to the activities of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha towards the Provincial Buddhist Congress and the National Buddhist Congress at the end of 2017.
