Students at Hanoi National University say no to cigarettes.

In response to World No Tobacco Day (May 31st), the final round of the "Understanding the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention" competition took place on the evening of May 30th at the auditorium on the 8th floor of building E, University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The competition attracted the attention and participation of numerous students from various units under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The competition night was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim – Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the University; Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan – Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue – Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Director of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - Member of the Standing Committee, Chief of the Central Office of the Youth Union; Mr. Trinh Minh Thai - Member of the Executive Committee, Deputy Chief of the Central Office of the Youth Union. In addition, the competition also welcomed the presence of the Secretaries of the Youth Unions of the participating units and a large number of students from various units.

The competition, titled "Understanding the Law on Tobacco Harm Prevention," aims to encourage youth union members and students in Hanoi to learn about the law on tobacco harm prevention and to come up with innovative ideas to combat its harmful effects. The competition is directed by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health), and hosted by the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The final night on May 30th was a direct competition between the 5 best teams from the following units: University of Technology, University of Science, University of Education, Faculty of Law – VNU Hanoi, and University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The teams had to go through three rounds of competition: Greetings, Knowledge, and Initiatives, to earn points from the judging panel. The three judges directly scoring the teams were: Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue - Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management; Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu – Vice President of the VNU Hanoi Trade Union; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Dung – Deputy Head of the Political and Student Affairs Department of VNU Hanoi.

After three exciting and intense rounds, the competition has found the winners of the major prizes. Specifically:

  • First prize: The team from the Faculty of Law - VNU Hanoi

  • Second prize: The team from the University of Natural Sciences.

  • Third place: The team from the University of Education

  • Consolation Prize: Teams from the University of Technology and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities

  • Best Fan Award: The fan from the University of Technology

In addition, the Grand Finale also included an individual award ceremony for the best essay based on its reach on the program's fanpage. This prize, worth 1 million VND, was awarded to Nguyen Thi Van from the University of Natural Sciences.

Dr. Tran Bach Hieu - Head of the competition organizing committee, presented commemorative gifts to the participating teams.

Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan – Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Executive Committee – presented flowers to the three judges of the competition night.

After each round of the competition, the teams will be scored directly and publicly by the judges through the display of scorecards.

Overview of Round 2 of the competition

Round 2 of the competition required participants to have a solid understanding of tobacco and its harmful effects. In this round, the Faculty of Law excelled in guessing the program's keyword after only 3 rounds of question selections by the teams.
