Sponsored by the Japan Foundation, on the morning of September 18, 2015, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Research Institute (Japan), organized an international conference entitled “Vietnam – Indochina – Japan Relations during World War II – Documents and Perceptions”. The conference attracted the participation of many scientists from Japan, France, China, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.

World War II is long over, but its consequences force humanity to reflect on the question: "How can we achieve lasting peace?" To achieve this goal, and to strengthen relations with Southeast Asian countries, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), as a leading university in Vietnam, has always prioritized historical research, including the history between Vietnam and Japan. Over the years, with the enthusiastic and effective support of the Japan Exchange Fund and many other international funds, USSH has organized numerous international scientific conferences such as: 100 Years of the Eastern Movement; Towards an East Asian Community – Opportunities and Challenges; Vietnam-Japan Relations in the New Era and New Generation; The seminar on cultural history and cultural diplomacy, the vitality of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations in the new international and regional context... These activities have truly contributed to improving the quality of training and research at the University, particularly in the field of Japanese Studies.

The seminar "Vietnam - Indochina - Japan Relations during World War II - Documents and Perspectives" once again focused on presenting and analyzing aspects of historical and cultural relations, political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, and between Japan and the Indochinese countries during World War II.
This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese, Japanese, and international scientists to share new research results, new documents, and new assessments on a rather special historical topic, aiming for a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between Vietnam and Japan and other Indochinese countries during World War II. The conference will take place over two days, September 18th and 19th, with two subcommittees, each with three discussion sessions.
