Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Kim emphasized the significance of the course in human resource development and school management.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Vice Principal of the School emphasized:“The role of functional departments in the School is very important. This is not only the unit that directly implements the work, but also has the function of advising and consulting the School's leaders to develop strategies, plans, and key activity programs. Organizing professional skills training courses for department-level management staff to move towards the goal of professionalizing management activities is a necessary and very meaningful task.”
Representing the leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, attending the opening of the training course was Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Head of the Party Committee Organization Committee, Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quan welcomed the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in pioneering the organization of this training course and teaching the first topic: “Leadership and management skills at the department level in universities”. The presentation focuses on the functions and roles of department-level managers represented through the model: Planning - Organizing - Leading - Controlling; the contents and relationships between Input - Influencing factors - Output of the core plan; Competency framework of leaders and managers of VNU (Source: Project to develop a team of highly qualified scientists and managers of VNU, period 2015 - 2020The lecture combined rich theoretical and practical knowledge, evoking many issues so that students could continue to exchange and discuss from their work experience.

Many opinions, enthusiastic and frank discussions were given by the school staff during the training session. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Lieu, Head of the School's Training Department shared: "Through 9 years of experience as a Faculty PCN, 6 years of departmental management, I have found that identifying key tasks in the planning stage is very important. Identify key tasks based on a correct assessment of the current situation, context and enhancing the ability to adapt. During the implementation process, attention must be paid to the coordination between management levels, timely adjustments must be made to achieve unity and effectiveness. Professionalism must go hand in hand with synchronization."Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Lieu also proposed a number of coordination measures between functional departments and specialized faculties, establishing a management system according to programs and projects in addition to traditional management methods.
Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu said: “The School's departmental management staff comes from two sources: departmental specialists and lecturers. A lecturer moving up to management encounters many difficulties. The important thing is to determine the functions and tasks, and to harmonize between expertise and management work..” Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu also frankly shared his personal views on the concepts and elements of the management model for Associate Professor Dr. Le Quan and his colleagues to expand their exchange and discussion.
The staff participating in the training course had an open exchange, sharing many ideas with profound practical value. The lively and highly interactive discussion atmosphere demonstrated the staff's interest and self-need in improving their management and leadership capacity. The following topics will be taught by Associate Professor Dang Quoc Bao - former Director of the Academy of Educational Management and Associate Professor Dr. Vu Thi Phung - former Head of the Department of Archives and Office Management. In addition, the course will organize a field survey at Can Tho University.
Professional skills training activities will continue to be deployed to all staff members of the whole school. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is making efforts to implement a strategy to develop human resources that meet the standards of title, academic degree, professional expertise, and management expertise.
