This global course is designed to discuss the latest developments on a global scale, with a focus on Southeast Asia and Europe. Topics will cover approaches to global politics, the interaction between domestic and global politics, and regional responses to global socio-political challenges.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, sent greetings to all students participating in the course. In particular, the presence of foreign students demonstrates the internationalization strategy that the University is implementing. The Rector hopes that students will not only listen to lectures in class but also spend time exploring historical sites and scenic spots to understand more about the country and people of Vietnam. The Rector also expressed his thanks to the Center for Global Politics, the DAAD Foundation and the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation Office in Vietnam for supporting the organization.
On behalf of the Free University of Berlin, Prof. Dr. Klaus Segbers said that the Center for Global Politics is honored to organize the Global Politics Course for the 5th time together with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation Office in Vietnam. The participation of students from many countries in the course reflects the interest of young people in developments in international politics, while also creating conditions for comparing perspectives between countries in solving global issues. Thereby, students from each country can outline potential scenarios as well as solutions to overcome current challenges.
The course will last from March 18 to March 28 and will include eight topics: New approaches to global politics; Power shifts and the complexity of globalization – Perspectives from Europe and Southeast Asia; The European Union (EU) as a regional project; ASEAN as a regional project and the role of Southeast Asia in the global system; The role of Europe in the global system; German media and dealing with global issues; Vietnamese media and dealing with global issues; Simulation game – Restoring peace in Fontania. Lectures will be interspersed with presentations, online exercises, summaries and theses. Participants will also visit Ha Long Bay on the afternoon of March 19 and the morning of March 20.
The course had the participation of 22 Vietnamese and international students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU; Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam; University of Foreign Languages, VNU; Hue University of Foreign Languages; University of Tubingen (Germany); Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich (Germany); Humboldt University (Germany), Royal University of Phnom Penh (Cambodia); Pannasastra University of Cambodia.
