Overview of the opening ceremony
In his welcoming speech, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) extended his congratulations to over 2,000 new students of the K63 cohort. This is the largest number of new students ever to join the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Looking back at the activities of the past academic year, the Rector assessed that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities had achieved many outstanding accomplishments, such as: establishing the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training with a model geared towards autonomy and high quality; 19 staff members receiving the titles of Professor and Associate Professor; over 2,000 first-year students enrolling, including, for the first time, over 80 students choosing Southeast Asian Studies - a major that was offered for the first time; the Literature major becoming the 4th training program to meet the quality standards of the ASEAN University Network (AUN); the university's staff having 60 international publications, including 10 articles published in high-impact journals and hundreds of domestic publications. Also during the past year, thousands of staff and students participated in exchange programs abroad. The trend of internationalization is increasingly evident in all activities of the University.

Sharing his thoughts on globalization trends and their relationship with localization, Professor Pham Quang Minh advised the new students: to integrate with the world, one must first integrate with those who share the same origins; to internationalize the world, one must first internationalize one's own home. However, he emphasized the importance of "integration, not assimilation."
The Professor and Principal beat the drum to officially open the 2018-2019 school year.
Professor Vu Minh Giang (Chairman of the Science and Training Council of Vietnam National University, Hanoi) also shared some words at the solemn opening ceremony of the University. His speech emphasized the role of human resources in the development of the country. "The most valuable resource for every nation is its people," the Professor hoped that students would always be aware of the importance of education, while cultivating an entrepreneurial spirit and a sense of commitment to participate in the ever-changing and unpredictable labor market of the future.

Speaking on behalf of the school's partners, the Chairman of the Dao Minh Quang Foundation said at the opening ceremony: "The Dao Minh Quang Foundation is a symbol of my love and gratitude to my parents, family, teachers, friends, and citizens of both Vietnam and Germany. My teachers have given me so much knowledge and experience. Thanks to them, I realize that knowledge is power. Therefore, today, I want to pass on these very valuable values to future generations of students – those who have the courage to change their own lives."

Also at the opening ceremony, the school awarded prizes to the 5 top-scoring students in the K63 entrance exam, students from other courses with outstanding academic achievements, students who won high prizes in scientific research activities, and the top-scoring graduate of 2018.
Professor Pham Quang Minh presents certificates of merit to outstanding students who received the Vietnam National University, Hanoi's scientific research award.
In addition, many organizations and businesses such as the Dao Minh Quang Foundation (Federal Republic of Germany), AEON Group, Phuong Dong Healthcare Group, and PVI Insurance Company have also awarded valuable scholarships to students of the University.

On behalf of more than 2,000 students of the QH-2018-X cohort, valedictorian Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh (Faculty of Oriental Studies) expressed her joy and excitement at becoming a new student of the University and promised to always strive to train and study so that "today we are proud of the University and in the future the University will be proud of us".
