Receiving and working with the delegation from Macau City University (China)

On September 22, 2018, Professor Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities), along with representatives from the Faculty of Tourism Studies and the Office of Cooperation and Development, met and worked with a delegation from Macau City University (China) led by Professor Kong Fanqing (Vice Rector).

During the meeting, Professor Pham Quang Minh introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) – a leading institution for research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. Initially focusing on basic sciences such as Philosophy, History, Literature, and Linguistics, the USSH has later expanded to include highly applied fields such as Management Science, Tourism Studies, Social Work, Journalism, and Public Relations. The university currently offers 24 undergraduate programs, 41 master's programs, and 31 doctoral programs. Regarding international cooperation, the university has signed cooperation agreements with over 300 foreign partners. The Rector expressed his desire for the university to soon implement cooperation with the University of Macau through activities such as student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and co-organizing international conferences.

On behalf of the University of Macau, Professor Kong Fanqing thanked the University for its warm welcome and invitation to the delegation to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018-2019 academic year at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. She stated that social sciences and humanities are also a key focus of research and training at the University of Macau. With similarities in specialized fields, the two universities are confident that effective and rapid cooperation can be implemented. She invited the Rector and faculty members of the University to visit the University of Macau in the near future.

Next, Dr. Chau Gia Hien (Deputy Director of the International Tourism and Management Academy, City University of Macau) introduced the Academy. The Academy was established in September 2011. It offers two bachelor's and master's programs in International Tourism and Hotel Management, and one doctoral program in International Tourism Management. The Academy has 2,800 undergraduate students and 150 postgraduate students. The Academy wishes to establish a bilateral relationship with the Faculty of Tourism Studies of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, especially after participating in the workshop "The Link Between Travel and Tourism: Creating Social Sustainability" organized by the Faculty on September 20-21.

As a private university, the University of Macau was founded in 1981 as the University of East Asia, and changed to its current name in 2011. The university currently has approximately 5,300 students and trainees, including 700 local students, nearly 2,500 trainees from mainland China, and nearly 100 international students. Its affiliated institutes and facilities include the Institute of International Management and Tourism, the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Institute of Education, the Institute of Urban Management and Research, the Institute of Law, the Open Institute, and the School of Continuing Education.
