The talk show is an event following the opening ceremony of the 2018-2019 school year. This is a new feature in the school's early year activities when organizing a talk with successful businessmen to inspire students in learning, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Viet is known for participating in the TV show for startups “Shark Tank: Billion Dollar Deal” on Vietnam Television as an investor. He is also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Intracom - a company operating in the fields of real estate, hydropower, finance, construction and production of building materials, healthcare...
Sharing with the first-year students, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Viet said that they should not rest on their laurels: “We have succeeded in overcoming the competition ratio of 1/20 people to enter this school and we have the right to be proud of that. But ahead of us, there are many goals to strive for.”
"Dreams and knowledge are valuable assets for young people" - Intracom's Chairman of the Board of Directors emphasized. He advised students to constantly learn from the smallest things to have a solid knowledge foundation, from which they can achieve higher goals in life. Knowledge here is not only limited to textbooks but also includes understanding of society, knowledge of different fields outside of the training industry, life skills... At the same time, you need to know how to apply the knowledge you have learned into practice.
“You should spend time studying and working, preferably in the field you are trained in, otherwise you can work in another field. Learn right from your part-time jobs. During your time as a student, the goal of part-time jobs is not to earn money but to gain experience. Many students graduate without a solid professional background, so it is difficult to find a job or they have occupational accidents. Therefore, you must learn and experience right from when you are still in school,” Mr. Viet shared.
Along with that, he also believes that students need to train themselves in critical thinking, know how to dig deep, and review issues to avoid being "led by the nose" by false information.
Another important thing is confidence and perseverance with the goal. Nothing is easy, so each person needs to equip themselves with knowledge and a strong will to accept the unsatisfactory things in life, turning difficulties into motivation to move forward.
The discussion was lively with many questions from students. Answering the question about the qualities and skills that employers expect from candidates, Mr. Viet said that it is understanding. Lack of experience is inevitable, however, between employees and leaders, there needs to be sympathy and understanding for each other to work towards a common goal.
Sharing his experience in starting a business, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Viet advised young people not to immediately think of big ideas but just need to grasp the needs of consumers, starting with products that are lacking in the market.
