The reading room and materials on religion and beliefs were established to meet the needs of scientific research and learning about the fields of religion and beliefs, within the framework of Cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Missionswisseschaftliches Institut Missio today.Center for Contemporary Religious Studies(CECRS). The reading room is expected to enhance scientific research, contributing to making the University of Social Sciences and Humanities a research university. The reading room has about 1,000 books on general theoretical fields of religion, specific religions such as Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Cao Dai, Hoa Hao, Mother Goddess beliefs, etc. on both aspects of religious research and religious practice.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa said that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities currently has many valuable documents that need to be stored and exploited. Therefore, the establishment of a document room by the Center for Contemporary Religious Studies will greatly contribute to serving the research and training work of the University. The Vice President hopes that the Center will continue to promote the potential of the document room in the future, especially towards digitizing documents. This will be a great contribution to the development of the University in general and the Religious Studies industry in particular.

In 1999, the Department of Religious Studies was established in the Faculty of Philosophy. In 2007,Center for Contemporary Religious Studieswas born as a result of cooperation between the University of Sciences and Humanities and the Missionswissenschaftliches Institut Missio e. V (MWI), Federal Republic of Germany, marking the development of religious studies in both academics and international relations. Since 2005, the Faculty has opened a postgraduate training major in Religious Studies, and since 2014, the doctoral training program in religious studies has been officially implemented.
