International scientific seminar on national development policy

On the morning of October 30, at Fortuna Hotel (Hanoi), the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Institute (Germany) organized an International Scientific Seminar with the theme: "Left-wing theory in national development: Exchange of experiences between Vietnam, Germany and Latin American countries".

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim delivered the opening speech at the seminar.

This is one of the activities within the framework of the project "Left-Wing Theoretical Options in a Changing World" between the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation and the Institute of Policy and Management, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Attending the seminar were Ms. Liliane Danso – Dahmen – Director of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Southeast Asia, Prof. Dr. People's Teacher Nguyen Van Khanh – Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Director of the Institute of Policy and Management, and ambassadors of Latin American countries in Vietnam such as Cuba, Chile, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities said: "The development of the Left movement and its impact in the region and the world has been a major topic in most Latin American countries and many countries around the world. In a world full of changes in the globalization process, it is both a challenge and an opportunity for development in each country and region, including Germany, Latin American countries and Vietnam".

Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Khac Nam - Head of the Faculty of International Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities presented the paper "Dependency Theory - A left-wing theory on socio-economic development".

The Associate Professor also hopes that “at this scientific seminar, international and Vietnamese researchers and experts will continue to delve into research and clarify policies and guidelines; the motivation, effectiveness, scope and level of influence of those policies and guidelines; and from the rich practices of each country, valuable lessons can be drawn as arguments for development policies, enhancing opportunities for exchange and bilateral and multilateral cooperation between countries today.”

The content of the discussion revolved around “Left-wing theory”, “Left-wing party” leading the country with presentations on three subjects: Vietnam (Vietnam's market economy from the left-wing perspective - Theory and practice by Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Dan), the Federal Republic of Germany (Left-wing theory and practice of building a social market economy in the Federal Republic of Germany by Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Cong Tuan) and Latin American countries (Venezuela's socio-economic achievements after 15 years of Left-wing Party leadership by Mrs. Katiuska Maestre - Charge d'Affaires of the Venezuelan Embassy in Vietnam, ...).

The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation has supported and coordinated with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to implement the project “Left-Wing Theoretical Options in a Changing World” for more than 6 years (2009-2015). During that time, many academic activities were successfully organized through annual international seminars (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) such as the seminar “Left-Wing Theoretical Foundations from a Marxist Perspective” (November 2010) and most recently in October 2014 with an international seminar on the topic “The role and contributions of the state in the development process of two countries: Vietnam and Cuba”.
