Faculty of Philosophy Celebrates 40th Anniversary

The Faculty of Philosophy, Hanoi National University was established by the decision of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Ministry of Higher Education and Vocational Secondary Education (now the Ministry of Education and Training) in September 1976.

This is a particularly important milestone, clearly demonstrating the Party and State's deep awareness and concern for theoretical research and training of Marxist-Leninist cadres to serve the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

The establishment of the Faculty of Philosophy has contributed to expanding the training structure of Hanoi National University - the largest basic science training institution in the country, at the time when the University completed 20 years of establishment and development.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Faculty of Philosophy, delivered the opening speech of the program.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, on behalf of the faculty, lecturers, students and trainees, welcomed the delegates who attended and shared the joy on this great holiday.

Looking back over the past 40 years, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan proudly shared: “Up to now, the faculty has built a team of dedicated lecturers and scientists with high qualifications, capacity and sense of responsibility, always dedicating themselves to the cause of philosophical research and training. At present, together with the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of History, the Faculty of Philosophy is one of the major faculties with tradition, prestige and high scientific position of the University.

“Also from the Faculty of Philosophy, the former Hanoi University of Science, now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities today, has successively added new faculties and training majors such as Sociology, Psychology, Management Science and most recently, Religious Studies. Many veteran lecturers and leaders of units have studied and grown up under the common roof of Philosophy”.Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan shared.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan represented the faculty to express gratitude to the generations of faculty leaders through the years (Associate Professor Bui Thanh Quat, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen An Lich, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Van Lich, Master Nguyen Van Thien, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van, Dr. Nguyen Ham Ba, Mr. Truong Khai Cuong, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Hao, Dr. Tran Thi Hanh) and the leaders of VNU, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, organizations, partners inside and outside the school, generations of alumni and former students who have contributed to the stature of the faculty today.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim, Party Secretary, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, on behalf of the University's leadership, delivered a congratulatory speech to the faculty. At the beginning of his speech, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim praised the achievements that the faculty had made in the recent past:“Born in difficult circumstances, but after 40 years of construction and development, the faculty has developed and become a leading philosophical research and training institution in the country. The faculty's staff constantly cultivate and improve their qualifications, professional capacity, and foreign language skills to meet the development requirements of the Philosophy industry in the new context.”

On behalf of the school's leadership, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim sent his thanks to all the staff, lecturers, students and trainees of the faculty who have worked hard, dedicated themselves, and contributed to building the brand of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as it is today. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim also sent his thanks to the partners who have created favorable conditions to support the Faculty of Philosophy to achieve the current results.

Faced with new opportunities, challenges and fortunes, Professor Nguyen Van Kim shared:“The faculty needs to make more efforts, focus on training staff, improve training quality, accelerate the internationalization of training programs, and expand many cooperative relationships with domestic and foreign partners.”

Prof. Dr. Tran Van Phong, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, delivered a congratulatory speech.

Regretting his roots, the place that gave him wings to achieve the results he has today, Professor Dr. Tran Van Phong, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, a former student of the 23rd Philosophy course, shared:“No matter what position we hold, each individual remembers the roots of the Faculty of Philosophy, the place that gave us wings to fly high and far. Without the care and guidance of generations of teachers in the Philosophy house, we would hardly be able to grow up like today. On behalf of the generation of alumni and students of the faculty, each member promises that, no matter what position we hold, we are worthy of being alumni of the Faculty of Philosophy.”

Representing the student body, K60 Philosophy student Nguyen Hong Tam sent his gratitude to generations of lecturers inside and outside the faculty, who have devoted themselves to imparting to many generations not only knowledge and skills in philosophy but also the heart and virtue in the way of living and working. These are solid provisions that help generations of students and trainees of the faculty confidently step into life.

The past 40 years have left many historical marks for the development of the Faculty of Philosophy with many advantages, achievements, and growth alongside countless difficulties and challenges that require continuous efforts and endeavors from generations of teachers and students. The collective of lecturers, students, and trainees of the Faculty of Philosophy believe that they will overcome limitations, conquer challenges, turn them into opportunities, and affirm their strong development in the future.
