The Faculty of Philosophy at Hanoi University was established in September 1976 by a decision of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Ministry of Higher Education and Vocational Training (now the Ministry of Education and Training).
This is a particularly important milestone, clearly demonstrating the profound awareness and concern of the Party and the State for theoretical research and the training of Marxist-Leninist cadres to serve the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
The establishment of the Philosophy Faculty contributed to expanding the training structure of Hanoi University – the largest institution for basic science education in the country, at a time when the University was celebrating its 20th anniversary of establishment and growth.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Philosophy Department, delivered the opening remarks for the program.
In his opening remarks at the celebration, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, on behalf of the faculty, students, and trainees of the department, welcomed the distinguished guests who had come to attend and share in the joy of this important occasion.
Looking back over the past 40 years, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan proudly shared:To date, the Faculty has built a team of dedicated lecturers and scientists with high qualifications, capabilities, and a strong sense of responsibility, always wholeheartedly contributing to the research and training in philosophy. Currently, along with the Faculty of Literature and the Faculty of History, the Faculty of Philosophy is one of the large faculties with a long tradition, prestige, and high scientific standing within the University.”
"It was also from the Philosophy Department of the former Hanoi University, now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, that new departments and training programs such as Sociology, Psychology, Management Science, and most recently, Religious Studies, have been added. Many veteran lecturers and leaders of various units have studied and grown from the common ground of Philosophy."Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan shared.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, representing the faculty, expressed gratitude to the generations of leaders of the faculty throughout the years (Associate Professor Bui Thanh Quat, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen An Lich, Associate Professor Dr. Duong Van Lich, MSc. Nguyen Van Thien, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thuy Van, Dr. Nguyen Ham Ba, Mr. Truong Khai Cuong, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Vu Hao, Dr. Tran Thi Hanh) and the leaders of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, organizations, partners inside and outside the university, and generations of alumni who have contributed to the strength and stature of the faculty today.

Professor Nguyen Van Kim, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the university leadership to the faculty. Beginning his speech, Professor Nguyen Van Kim praised the achievements the faculty has made in the recent past:"Born amidst many difficulties, but after 40 years of development, the Faculty has grown into a leading research and training institution in philosophy nationwide. The faculty's staff continuously strives to improve their professional skills and foreign language proficiency to meet the evolving demands of philosophy in the new context."
On behalf of the University's leadership, Professor Nguyen Van Kim expressed his gratitude to all the staff, lecturers, students, and trainees of the Faculty for their tireless work and dedication, contributing to building the brand of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as it is today. Professor Nguyen Van Kim also thanked the partner organizations for providing support that enabled the Philosophy Faculty to achieve its current results.
In light of new opportunities, challenges, and prospects, Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim shared:"The faculty as a whole needs to strive harder, focusing on training staff, improving the quality of training, accelerating the internationalization of training programs, and expanding cooperative relationships with domestic and foreign partners."

Professor Tran Van Phong, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, delivered a congratulatory speech.
Reflecting on his roots, the place that nurtured him to achieve the results he has today, Professor Tran Van Phong, Director of the Institute of Philosophy, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and a former student of the K23 Philosophy course, shared:“No matter what position we hold, each of us will always remember our roots in the Philosophy Department, the place that has nurtured us and helped us reach greater heights. Without the care and guidance of generations of teachers in the Philosophy Department, we could hardly have grown to where we are today. On behalf of all the alumni of the department, each member pledges that, no matter what position we hold, we will always be worthy alumni of the Philosophy Department.”
On behalf of the entire student body, Nguyen Hong Tam, a student from the K60 Philosophy program, expressed gratitude to the generations of lecturers both within and outside the faculty, who have dedicated themselves to imparting to many generations not only knowledge and skills in philosophy but also the heart and ethics in their way of life and work. These are solid foundations that help generations of students and trainees of the faculty confidently bước into life.
The past 40 years have left many historical imprints on the development of the Philosophy Department, with numerous advantages, achievements, and growth alongside countless difficulties and challenges that require the continuous efforts of generations of teachers and students. The faculty, students, and trainees of the Philosophy Department are confident that they will overcome limitations, conquer challenges, turn them into opportunities, and affirm their strong development in the future.
