Seminar commemorating the 60th anniversary of Hanoi University.

On November 9, 2016, the Trade Union and the Association of Retired Faculty Members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities jointly organized a seminar to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Hanoi University. The seminar was attended by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Rector of the University, Prof. Dinh Van Duc - President of the Association of Retired Faculty Members of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Prof. Tran Huy Ho - General Secretary of the Association of Retired Faculty Members of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and Prof. Vu Duong Ninh - President of the Association of Retired Faculty Members of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

At the seminar, former faculty members shared and reminisced about their time at Hanoi University - one of the renowned universities that has made significant contributions to Vietnamese education.

Professor Vu Duong Ninh - Chairman of the School's Retired Teachers Association and Associate Professor Dang Xuan Khang - Chairman of the School's Trade Union, chaired the seminar.

Hanoi University, a leading university of basic sciences, was the first in North Vietnam to be established in 1956, encompassing both natural and social sciences. The university directly inherited the traditions and technical infrastructure of the University of Indochina, the National University of Vietnam, and the Faculty of Literature… Professor Nguy Nhu Kon Tum was personally chosen by President Ho Chi Minh as the first Rector of Hanoi University, a position he held for twenty-six consecutive years, from 1956 to 1982.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Kim - Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Rector of the University, delivered a speech at the seminar.

After thirty-seven years of establishment and development, Hanoi University has achieved significant accomplishments in building and developing Vietnam's scientific fields, providing high-quality human resources to serve the cause of building socialism in the North and the struggle for the liberation of the South and national reunification. The university has truly become a leading institution and a top training center in the country. It has trained thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate-level personnel. These graduates have become a core group of basic science personnel for universities, research institutes, and central and local government agencies.

In 1993, Hanoi University was separated into the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences. These two universities became the core members of the current Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

The seminar took place in an atmosphere of emotion and pride among the teachers who have spent almost their entire lives studying, working, and growing up under the roof of this institution. With the spirit of reflecting on the past to look towards a better future, the teachers shared their aspirations on how to promote the fine traditional values ​​in research and training of Hanoi University for the development of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi today.
