This morning, November 9th, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to celebrate the 15th World Social Work Day with the theme "Social Work for the Happiness of Every Family".

Celebrating the 15th World Social Work Day
This morning, November 9th, 2012, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a ceremony to celebrate the 15th World Social Work Day with the theme "Social Work for the Happiness of Every Family".Attending the ceremony were Ms. Pham Thi Hai Chuyen (Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs); Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang (former Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, President of the Vietnam Vocational Training Association); Mr. David Sheer, US Ambassador to Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities); along with representatives of domestic and international organizations, sponsors, lecturers, and students of the Social Work major from the university.

In his opening remarks, Professor Nguyen Van Khanh stated: At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Social Work major was officially introduced in 2006. Since 2011, with the approval of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has offered a Master's program in Social Work. Both the undergraduate and Master's programs have attracted hundreds of students and trainees. The 2012 World Social Work Day celebration at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities today is an opportunity to reflect on the past and look towards future activities. It also recognizes and honors the values ​​of the social work profession. Furthermore, it provides an opportunity for social workers to meet, network, and exchange experiences, while promoting and advancing social work training programs in universities and colleges nationwide.

At the ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Hai Chuyen (Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs) affirmed the role of social work in the current development of the country. She also emphasized the projects, plans, and support provided by the Ministry to develop social work in Vietnam. The series of activities commemorating the 15th World Social Work Day will continue until November 10, 2012, at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
