Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with Howon University (Korea)

On December 10, 2018, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) signed a memorandum of cooperation with Howon University (Korea) on behalf of the University. Also attending the ceremony were representatives of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Faculty of Tourism Studies, Institute of Journalism and Communication, and the Department of Cooperation and Development.

At the reception, Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. The University currently has over 10,000 students, including more than 800 international students. To contribute to the internationalization strategy, the University has established cooperative relationships with more than 300 partners, including Korean universities such as Seoul University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies, and Hanyang University. The University's Faculty of Oriental Studies is also one of the leading addresses for Korean studies in Vietnam. The President hopes that after signing the memorandum of understanding, the two sides can quickly promote cooperation.

On behalf of the host country, Dr. Kang Hee Sung (President of Howon University) expressed his pleasure to visit a prestigious training institution in Vietnam such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He said that with the increasing trend of Korean universities sending students to study in Vietnam, Howon University is no exception. He suggested that the two universities focus on cooperation in highly applicable fields such as Tourism, Journalism-Communication, Korean Studies-Vietnamese Studies.

On that basis, the leaders of both sides signed a memorandum of cooperation. Accordingly, the two schools committed to: exchanging staff, lecturers and students; cooperating in conducting and exchanging research results; exchanging learning materials, publications and scientific information; sharing resources, staff in the field of libraries and other services; other educational and academic exchanges agreed upon by both sides.

Howon University was founded in 1977 as Gunsan Industrial College and officially granted university status in 1998. The school currently has 7,334 students and about 600 teaching staff. The school has 40 training majors in 6 faculties: Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Tourism, Faculty of Media and Arts, Faculty of Health and Welfare, Faculty of Physical Education, Faculty of Science and Engineering.
